Game of Thrones, Winter is Coming, 4/17/11

I actually expected there to be *more *nudity & sex! I kept reading descriptions of the story as “Lord of the Rings with fucking” so I was thinking it would be more along the lines of the recent show Spartacus. Compared to that it’s quite chaste.

It seemed to me that the F word did not really fit in , it was like they put it in because it’s HBO. Otherwise I thought it was good.

Remind me who was in the black armor and the lion-shaped helmet with the bobbing visor when the King’s entourage entered Winterfell?

The Hound.

Hmm, if everyone else liked the acting then I was probably just grumpy with everyone explaining carefully who they are and where they’re from. I’ll watch episode 2 with an open mind.

Dog-shaped. As Snarky noted, it was Sandor Clegane, the Hound.

What? hell, most people wish they had done exactly that. But they didn’t, at all.

There’s actually been a couple comments along those lines in this thread. For example:

I think it’s promising that the reviews say it gets better after the first episode because the first episode was still pretty damn good, even with all the necessecary exposition. I also think it’s a good sign that the hardcore Ice and Fire geeks have only had small complaints. They’re managing to keep fanboys/fangirls basically happy while still being immediately accessible and compelling to n00bs, which is a pretty rare feat.

I just hope I can start figuring who is who. Reading through this thread, most of the time I have no idea which character goes with which name, so I don’t know who you guys are talking about. I really wish these shows would do a better job of introducing the characters so it’s not such a mystery for so long. A lot of us didn’t read the friggin’ book.

Of course, I had the same problem, early on, with Rome, and that ended up being my favorite HBO show of them all.

Wow, I knew Jaime Lannister and the Queen were brother and sister, but I didn’t realize they were twins! Wow, please tell me (not really) she doesn’t get pregnant!

I’m not going to tell you a fucking thing.

That’s awesome. I know I’ve seen it in a couple of posts, but really, it should be required reading <viewing? It’s just a chart> for anyone new to the series.
Hell, it helped me too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Let’s just say that would be kind of a moot issue by now..

I’m happy to note that I wasn’t the only person having problems with understanding the dialogue. Tomorrow my list of things to do includes breaking out the instructions for my amplifier. (I’ve only used two settings: “spacious movie” and “radio”.)

Well, that helps! Thanks.

Fucking your sibling is incest, fucking your twin is more like narcissism.

Chiming in with the thanks for that link. The only three characters I had trouble telling apart were Jon, Robb, and Theon. Now I know that the Orlando Bloom knockoff is Jon, Robb has a clenched jaw, and Theon looks like he’s three sheets to the wind, I’ll have a much easier time telling them apart.

I nearly shit myself when I saw what voltaire hoped would never happen. I keep forgetting how many twists and surprises there are in these books.
