Game of Thrones, Winter is Coming, 4/17/11

You’re getting a lot of milage out of a simple difference of opinion, Joe. Having seen the second episode, I still don’t see any reason to change my mind.

Even if you’re answering a question, pls. be mindful of the people reading this thread who did not ask that question, and use spoiler boxes.

Thanks,

twicks

Also be aware that spoiler-boxed information appears in the clear, in the email notification that someone’s posted to the thread.

That is not a spoiler, it was on the very first scene of the very first episode.

No, It’s not clear yet what the white walkers are. Hell it isn’t even clear yet in the books. What you said is by no means common knowledge at this point–it could easily be assumed that the undead ARE the white walkers and nothing has been shown to disprove that yet. It’s a long while in the books before that really becomes the understanding.

Yet, unprompted, people in the thread for the very next episode wish for a sccne you deemed fan service and a waste of time.

And it’s not a difference of opinion. I can state as a fact that my view of what constitutes a significant or not significant character, scene, or relationship, and my view on such things is worth far more than yours. You know why? Because I KNOW what comes next and you don’t.

With complete ignorance of the themes, plot, and characters you declare that portraying a fairly significant set of relationships is “fan service” - a pretty insulting term, really. Based on absolutely nothing.

Aurra Sing’s one-second cameo in The Phantom Menace is fan service. Actually having scenes that advance the plot, theme, and characterization is not fan service, even if you don’t know why.

Actual spoilers ahead, not fake spoilers! Don’t read the spoiler box if you don’t want spoilers!
This is wrong. Waymar, Gared, and Will talk about how they were sent to find the wildlings and found a camp full of dead ones. It’s pretty clear that the wildling are the dead humans, because it’s flat out said they are.

By process of elimination, we know which ones the White Walkers are.

He spoiled nothing.
But I don’t think that’s obvious to the audience of the TV show yet. We don’t get a good look at the white walkers and it’s easy to assume they’re just other undead wildlings

I do have to agree with Opal on this one.

I didn’t really see much more of the Others than a very dark shadowy figure and I KNEW what I was looking for. They definitely kept the White Walkers wrapped up in mystery throughout the prologue.

There is a separate thread for discussion of the entire series. Spoilers and information from later in the series should be posted there.

The dude says he saw them like 30 times…

Yes, but not everybody has. (And it’s true that the notification emails are not spoiler boxed.) I know you made it clear you were posting spoilers, but there’s a separate thread for a reason.

I was not responding to you. That was a response to OpalCat and jayjay.

I want to respond but not under a cloud of moderator doom, and I’m not absolutely clear on what would happen to me if I did respond, so I’m kind of stuck.

Take it to the spoiler thread?

Although, nothing we were just talking about is really a spoiler. It was all shown in the first episode.

If your interpretation of what was shown was influenced by the fact you seem to have made it through the first book in the series, why not take it to the spoiler thread?

[li]Serious spoilers shouldn’t be here.[/li]
[li]Possibly-not-serious spoilers just make for an ugly thread.[/li][/ul]

We have a whole thread in which to exhibit our in-depth knowledge!

Is it my interpretation that the deserter that was executed claimed to have seen the White Walkers?

Okay, in for a penny…he DID claim to have seen them. We, however, really didn’t. Not clearly. Unless by White Walkers he’s talking about the wights, rather than the Others.

Did you think that the rangers were killed by wildlings?
