Hey, folks - let’s be careful about labeling spoilers for the sake of the non-book readers. That isn’t a spoiler for the episode that just showed, those are major spoilers for future episodes/seasons.
I think we’ve been doing open spoilers for stuff that was in the actual episode, and spoilers for stuff thats in the books but haven’t been revealed in the TV show yet.
Ah, okay. But probably that should be made explicit in future threads with the first post or something.
Not trying to nag ( I’m pretty spoiler-neutral ), just anticipating somebody losing their shit over that sort of thing - it’s happened before ;).
In case it wasn’t clear - and especially for anyone who hasn’t read the books - the HBO series has aged everybody. All the kids (and Dany) are the most obvious, but all the adults are older too. Pretty much everyone got 3 - 5 years added to their age, presumably so that 13-year-olds aren’t getting married on television.
Also so that that can use the same actors for the kids for a more sustained period of time.

…winter is coming.
I agree with Tamerlane…let’s try and keep the spoilers well hidden. It’s hard sometimes when discussing a well loved book not to get carried away and blurt stuff out, but there seems to be a surprising number of people watching the show and participating in this thread who haven’t read the books.

Aaaaand it’s already been picked up for another season: HBO renews Game Of Thrones for second season
I’m in the middle of book 3 right now, so the show is nice to help me remember bits from the past, and to help sort out all the characters.
I figured Bronn was the guy Tyrion was talking to when he was complaining about his hangover. Pretty distinctive guy with hair missing from one side of his head.

That was Sandor, the Hound I presume.
Ah, yes. That would make a lot more sense wouldn’t it?

I assume everyone noted Drogo’s belt of gold medalions?
I’m sorry…my concentration was focused about a foot or so above his belt…
My concentration was focused on all those barbarian women with big titties walking about half naked and giving all the barbarian men smokey looks, so…I didn’t notice it either.
This will be later episode so don’t read on if you haven’t read the book and don’t want to spoil a potential later scene:
I wonder if they will show the scene where Khal Drogo kills Viserys by pouring molten metal (silver?) into his ears and eyes?
Oh, I hope I hope I hope!
Yeah…it was one of those golden moments in the book. I REALLY hope they put that in here as well.
-XT
Bronn probably won’t show up for a few episodes.
I think the fact that the showed the belt (you see him take it off for his wedding night) is proof that the scene will appear.
It’s molten gold - Drogo gets tired of his whining about wanting his gold crown (and his insukts to Dany), so he gives him a “gold crown.”
This link is to a review of the first episode from someone that hasn’t read the books. He’s obviously confused about some things, but he’s energetic. I was wanting to watch this with someone that hasn’t read the books for their reactions, this served that function for me (8-9 minutes in are the best).
There are spoilers for the first episode and speculation for the future.
Correct me if I’m wrong: isn’t “low magic fantasy” the proper term for this sort of fantasy series? You know, as opposed to high magic fantasy like LOTR.
I don’t see why Rickon couldn’t have remained three, though. Would what happens really be that much worse for a three-year-old than a seven to eight-year-old?
What early characterization of him there is involves him acting as you would expect a three-year-old in such a horrible situation to act, and it won’t be the same with a kid more than twice that age. So either it’s going to seem odd from a kid that old, or Rickon isn’t going to be much like the book.
