Maybe “The Devil” doesn’t actually have any powers on Earth…maybe he’s just the guy in charge of running Hell.
How human souls get to Hell is no concern of his…he’s just down there to do a job.
Darn. When I saw this thread title, I was dreaming up the various chess pieces God and Satan would use, a la those Simpsons-themed chess boards one finds in a mall. Putting all theological errors aside…
On God’s side:
King = Jesus
Queen = Dove
Bishop = Flame
Knight = Ark
Rook = Cross
Pawn = Angels
On Satan’s Side
King = Antichrist
Queen = Dragon
Bishop = Demons
Knight = Horsemen of the apocolypse
Rook = Pentagrams
Pawn = Skeletons

I thought the idea was that God and Satan use us humans as the pieces. Maybe the board would look like this then.
God:
King = Billy Graham
Queen = Barbara Bush
Bishop = Bill Clinton/Al Gore

Pawn = the cast of “Scrubs”
Satan:
King = George W. Bush
Queen = Micheal Jackson
Bishop = Dick Cheney/ Colin Powell
Knight = Tony Blair/ Sadaam Hussein
Pawn = the cast of “Joe Millionaire” – You have to guess which 8
If God gave man free will then he can’t be moving the pieces.
The sons of light and the sons of darkness might be different people though.

Preisthoods opposed to science could be sons of darkness.
