Or, if you prefer: Good or Evil? I’d have to say I think it’s close, but I’m going to give the edge to Evil.
What do you think, fellow Dopers? Feel free to cite the specifics upon which you base your opinion, but if all you’ve got is a gut feeling, don’t let that stop you from responding, I mean, this is a thread asking for opinions, and a quick Google search doesn’t reveal the score (a handy Good: 0 Evil: 0; top of the third, one on, one out would be handy).
I think I’m winning. All I know is that I do what I do, so nobody else can do it becaues the way I do it cannot be duplicated.
(best read with “Eye of the Tiger” playing in your head. You’re welcome now that it’s stuck there all day long)
Am I Good or Evil?
FuckifIknow.
It’d help if I believed in at least ONE of the figures discussed, right?
Not to be a problem child, but I think neither. Because you’re from around Boston and probably know all about “Manny being Manny,” I think I can say that what you see is not the triumph of good over evil, or evil over good, but huMann(it)y being huMann(it)y. (Boy, is that an awkward pun – you giving out awards for that?)
Wait. Winning what? Are we talking about the battle over all of humanity’s souls or is it the God Vs. Satan Monday night pay-per-view mud-wrestling match?
Well, then. You believe in mud, yes? Then you must recognize God and Satan are battling over the eternal disposition of your mud. It’s all over the papers this morning.
What are you talking about? If what’s in the Bible is even close to being true, Satan has already won. War, cancer, earthquakes, Britney Spears. You gotta be kidding me.
I think that it is a crap shoot really. Good would not exist if it weren’t for Evil, because Good would not have a frame of reference and something to compare it as being “better.” Sames goes for Evil. As soon as one goes away, so does the other.
It is a mystery wrapped up in a questionable enigma.
Not at all. I’m not questioning the metaphysics of the nature of good and evil, or God and Satan. For the purpose of this OP, the concepts (to me) are abstract and/or interchangable. Do you dig it?
I just wanted your take on which side was winning.
Incorrect. There’s Good and Indifferent, or Good and Even Better.
While I don’t believe in God/Satan, I do believe in Good/Evil. I think Good is winning, because hurting/destroying things is easier than preservation or creation. If human behavior wasn’t largely positive, we’d either all be dead or or living in hellhole villages made of mud huts.
It’s all good. Evil exists only because good lets it. If we are to believe The Bible, The Silmarillion, etc, “evil” exists at the command of the creator as a tool for the creation. The more Evil tries to operate independently, the more it validates good as the true prime mover of the universe. As long as there is life, good reigns victorious. Whenever evil fails to annihilate life, it has only exposed another of its tactics and has thus strengthened good’s position. Evil is simply the janitor that does the dirty work for the benefit of good.
If Evil exists because good lets it, then “good” is actually evil for doing so. Therefore, if you’re right evil has already won, because evil is all there is.
