[GAME] The Resistance - Take 2

We just finished the first game of “The Resistance” on this board. That thread is here. However, I did not do due diligence before setting up the game and used the original rules with 10 players. This was definitely unbalanced in favor of the spies. So, I am going to give it another try, but this time I will limit the game to 5 to 7 players. I know some players are interested in playing the game with special roles, such as the Avalon variant. I will do that in a later game, but this game will just have the same basic rules as in the linked thread.

If you would like to play, sign up in this thread. I will start the game when we have enough players.

I would like to play.

I’m interested.

Sure, I’ll have another go.

I’ve played quite a few games of 5-player Resistance and I’d say it’s biased in favor of the Resistance. It’s also arguably quite dull if the good guys hit upon a winning team from the start; they’ll just keep on accepting the same team. Seven players seems to be the magic number.

I’ll have another go, sure. I’ll be interested to see how different numbers affect the balance.

I’m not available for this one but would play again in the future. For what it’s worth, I think 7 is the sweetest spot. 5 strongly favors the resistance.

I’ll jump in when we have some roles to play with. For now I’ll just spectate and comment from the peanut gallery.

I’m always up for giving things another shot.

/in pls

We now have 6 players. I will wait a day or so to see if we get another player.

I realized today that I am starting this game when we Americans have a major holiday next week. I know I will be traveling and I expect others will either be traveling or busy with family or cooking or shopping or decorating. So, the game will go on hiatus from next Tuesday evening to the following Sunday evening. Players can still discuss the game in thread, but no official actions will take place during that time.

Also, I will only end this game after the reveal of a mission outcome. I mercy killed the last game when I had sufficient approve votes, but I will not end this game until the reveal of the outcome.

I’ll be a 7th if no one else wants to play.

Otherwise I’ll just grab a bag of popcorn and [del]jeer[/del] cheer from the bleachers!

I’ll play

And just to save time: I’m not a spy, I swear.

Well, that’s one down. I’m not a spy either, so we have to search from the remaining pool.

TexCat is probably not even a real cat. I’d start the list there.

Can we agree in advance to approve the first mission?

We are starting from a blank slate. We don’t have the usual clues like shifty eyes. There’s no reason to imagine one leader’s picks are better or worse than another’s.

I believe our glorious struggle against the oppressors is best served this way. “If it 'twere done, 'twere best done quickly.”

All role PM’s have been sent out. Please post in the thread or PM me to confirm that you have received your PM.

All PM’s have similar to one of the following:

Welcome to our game of “The Resistance”. You are a member of the resistance, otherwise known as a good guy.

Welcome to our game of “The Resistance”. You are a spy, otherwise known as a bad guy. The other spies are [redacted].
There are 3 spies in the game.
There are up to five rounds in the game. In each round a certain number of players will be selected to go on a mission. The number for each round is below:

1st round: 2 players
2nd round: 3 players
3rd round: 3 players
4th round: 4 players (this round will require two fail votes for the mission to fail)
5th round: 4 players

All rounds except the fourth will require only one fail vote for the mission to fail.
The players to go on the mission will be nominated by a leader. The leader position will rotate according to the following list:

Terminus Est
Bricker
TexCat
clairobscur
Stanislaus
Mahaloth
sinjin
Once a team is nominated, all players will vote to approve or reject the mission. 4 players must vote to approve for the mission to take place. Approve and reject votes will be made public.

If the team is rejected, the leader position passes to the next person in the list, who will nominate a team for the same round. If 5 missions are rejected during a round, the spies win the game.
Once a mission is approved, the players on the mission will vote succeed or fail. Resistance members must vote succeed, spies may choose succeed or fail. The number of succeed and fail votes will be revealed, but the players casting the votes will not.
Terminus Est is our first leader. He needs to nominate a team of 2 players for the first mission. He may, but is not required to, nominate himself. Terminus, you may discuss whatever you wish in the thread, but please PM me the list of players you are nominating for the mission. Since this is the start of the game and players are just receiving the information, I will allow until 5:00 pm on Sunday, November 23rd for the first nominations. If I receive them earlier, I will move onto phase 2 of the round.
Players, you may discuss anything you like in this thread, but please do not discuss this game with other players outside this thread.

Also, a spectator thread (or “unspoiled” thread) may be created (or revived) for non-players to comment on this game. I would ask that players please not read that thread.

PM rec’d.

vote: Bricker for questioning my cattiness

Confirming.

I was last in the leader list last time and second to last this time. I will pick a team in some game!

PM received.
What are we resisting against, already?
