Demigod, now you’re just being silly. What does a clock have to do with a duck?
FWIW, something about a clock was the first thing that popped into my head - but it just doesn’t sit right with me.
Minxsmom, I know the clock bit doesn’t fit, but I vaguely remember a similar riddle where the answer was clock. Who knows…maybe the answer really is duck.
How about sundials along a line of latitude?
As far as the centre one was concerned the ones on either side would be either early or late - I think erm, ok it’s just a guess.
“Does it have anything to do with a clock?” No, nor with any time-telling device.
As a bonus hint, I, my two partners, and the pointed-at object are all part of a larger mechanical (or electronic) device.
I’m trying not to ask if it’s a duck shaped sundial…apparantly I’m not doing a good job of it.
Is it found in homes?
Egads! It’s a Nuke! Run!
:: SLAP ::
Sorry about that, i feel better now, honest.
Hmm, the more i think about it. I say it’s a Duck with a Timex.
a duck with a timex? is that your FINAL answer?
“Is it found in homes?” Yes, in quite a good number of homes.
You guys are going to tire of saying “duck” sooner or later…
Hmmm, it’s a duck in a toaster with a timex?!?!
I really gotta stop signing on here from work.
I don’t know why, but for some reason kitchen faucet just popped into my head, or perhaps the drain is what you are pointing at?
Here’s some wierd guesses, which COULD satisfy this (none of them duck-related) :
You’re a headphone jack, with two speakers set up on either side. The lag to the headphone jack is more than that to the speakers in this particular design. Of course, this skips the question of what you’re late relative too, much less what you’re pointing at. And the opposite is more likely true of any stereo set-up.
You’re a faucet head. (mixer type, with hot and cold taps on left and right). You could be late relative to the water reaching the base of the faucet. This is, of course arbitrary and silly. And what are you pointing too? The aquatic fowl splashing around in the sink? Oops, I mean just the sink.
This one I like best, since it’s so convoluted : You’re part of an odd thermostat for a heat pump. This one’s designed with two switches representing ‘too hot’ and ‘too cold’. You point to somewhere in the middle, representing the ‘ideal’ temp. When one of the extreme switches is tripped, the heat pump is switched on. (this makes them early relative to its operation.) It runs until just past the ideal temperature setting (you), and this temperature is reached after the thing shuts off. That makes you late. Of course, the clever duck^H^H^H^H chap would notice that you’ve been passed once before being late, so maybe that’s not you either.
So … are these things early or late relative to a specific time of day/month/year?
Late/early relative to some approximately daily/weekly/monthly/yearly event, if not that (something that happens regularly but not necessarily at a specific time)?
We’re not talking ‘late’ like deceased or late as in late ‘for not being pregnant’, are we?
panama duck
You’re a refridgerator, aren’t you? A big, duck-like refridgerator.
I know I maybe made this a little obscure, so I’ll continue to give more information than was asked for, because I don’t want this to take forever.
The answer has nothing to do with a sink, or a refrigerator, or anything doing with plumbing. Also, although they’re good guesses, nothing to do with a toaster, audio equipment, or temperature.
The “early” and “late” references have nothing to do with time. Also, they have nothing to do with being deceased or pregnant or anything that only organic beings can be. Very perceptive, panamajack, for looking into this.
A pine cone with a transistor radio stuck in it. How about that?
you’re a fan! a fan with a duck hanging from it!
I know - you’re a DVD player showing The Mighty Ducks!
All right, I’m intrigued. I have no idea what it could be, and no clever thoughts of narrowing things down. So, I’m whipping out the shotgun; everybody stand back. And somebody hang on to that duck.
Does the pointer point electrons (i.e., electrical)
Does it point light?
Sound?
radio waves?
infrared signals?
Some other type of remote control?
Does it point for the purposes of identifying something, like a channel indicator on a tv or radio?
Does it point for the purposes of transmitting information?
Does it point for the purposes of transmitting material or power?
Are the three main objects part of one indivisible unit?
Are the four objects?
Are the two objects which are non-pointers and non-pointees identical?
Are they mirror copies?
Are they similar?
Is it commonly found in a bedroom?
Bathroom?
Kitchen?
Living Room?
Garage?
Other, if I’ve missed the right room?
Is it part of or related to a Cell phone?
pager?
PDA?
watch?
Other personal device?
Are these components part of an electrical system?
Mechanical system?
Are they part of or related to a TV?
VCR/DVD?
Lighting?
Lock?
Heater?
Air conditioner?
Hair dryer?
Telephone?
Computer?
Stove?
Refrigerator?
Jeez…Bill is like the little kid that asks “why?” all the time. oh, well! At least I don’t have to answer any of it.
Buzz off, Duck-boy, you bother me.
Ouch, there’s not much love in this thread for a guy that likes mechanical ducks. Just remember, I’m not hte one that started the duck bit.
Geez, Bill, lighten up a little would ya? We are just having a little fun since we all seem to be stumped.
Ok, i got it. It’s a duck with a timex in a toaster, in the sink, with a remote control, doing the hokey pokey, next to the duck shaped frig, watching the Mightey ducks on a duck shaped tv. I think that covered everything.

Damn, i forgot the fan and the pine cone. Hmmm, those ducks sure know how to party!
