There’s a little bit more to do than in Chessic Sense’s puzzles, but I think it can be figured out. (But it’s so hard to tell – what’s obvious to one person can be totally opaque to another.)
A famous tripper is is either Day or Leary, maybe.
Komodo and Eclispes are both IDEs.
A Beatle butcher is spelled like the band, but I don’t know the reference.
An astronaut could be anyone, but I’d guess either Buzz or Neil.
I can’t get the Beatles butcher. John Pizzarelli did Meats the Beatles in 1998, but that doesn’t work with the rest of it. You get Pizareli when you merge the doubles, and that’s useless to me. Hmm…
Wow. That’s a pretty big coincidence. I was kinda trying to allude to the “Yesterday… and Today” butcher cover as a red herring, but other synonyms with “do a bad job of singing” would suffice. A small hint: think pop, punk, and/or Americana.
You’re right – that wasn’t a good clue on my part. Furthermore, the song I was thinking of isn’t even on there, because it’s not an exact cover – it’s more of a parody. (Lennon/McCartney didn’t get a writing credit.) However, the song did hit #2 in three countries (none of which were their native USA, although it reached the top 10 in US mainstream rock and modern rock charts). Tiny hint: all that charting actually happened in 1999, but the album came out in 1998.
Another small hint: Reread that paragraph above and my previous post.
I’ll take a crack at “Sunshine” without reading the subsequent posts:
1. DNA shape (5 letters) - Helix.
2. Change genders - Shelix?
3. A Chicago train jumped the tracks - I see from a quick Google that it was an “L” train that derailed in March this year, not sure if you mean to remove the “L” or move it to another point in the word.
4. Double the sibilant one - add an “s” for Ssheix (assuming the L is removed).
5. Cross out naught’s partner - presumably as in “noughts and crosses”, so delete the “x” for Sshei
6. Let’s get you and me inside - add a u and “me” somewhere in the middle, but I can’t get it to work - “Sushi” or “Sashimi” seems to be as close as I can get. And I don’t see how either of those fits with the first clue to give the answer.
After seeing Kimble’s answer, I see I more or less had it, just couldn’t make the final connection!
You’re very very close. The cryptic clue is correct and you can proclaim victory if you choose. However, I thought this might be too easy if you got cryptic clue 3, so I made the “plain” clue less plain. (Sorry.) A hint that might be enough to push you over the edge (in more ways than one!): the 6th, 10th, and 11th characters in the password are all the same.
