Co-op can be great. I went through System Shock 2 with a freind. He didn’t believe that I had beaten the body of the Many with a psionic, but he got to see my evolution from scrappy wrench warrior to invisible titan of destruction.
I still need to convince him I can beat the game without firing a single bullet.

Metroid Prime is a 3D first-person platform shooter…
The gameplay (lots of looking up and down for things to jump on, and an auto-aiming capability, along with side-scrolling sections) make the shooting somewhat secondary to the platforming.
Its best described as a platformer where you have a gun, which happens to take place in first-person mode.
Call it a platformer, before anything else.
THANK YOU. I’m actually torn between this masterpiece of a game and Baldur’s Gate 2 w/Throne of Bhaal. I have to include ToB, because I teared up during the ending sequence, even though the game itself was a little… silly. I think I was level 40 or something by the end of it. Whatever. Truly an epic, and truly terrific.
system shock 2 had co-op! ah! but i had already completed it!..
My buddy recently found a good free server for online Halo play, so the four of us threw our hat in the ring on Wednesday and played 4v4, 4v3, and 4v2 for hours. I don’t want to say we sucked, because that would be too kind. We are downright awful.
The pinnacle of shame was when we play 4v3. During a smoke break, one of them typed: “I had to take my niece home, and lil girl is in the bathroom.” as an explanation for their delay.
So we all immediately realized we were in all likelihood playing against 1 adult of unspecified gender, and two pre-teen girls, and getting our asses handed to us. We consistently lost the 4v3 slayer matches 50 kills to 21, even on our favorite maps.
Egad.
No real reason I posted this here, other than to bump it up in hopes of more game nominations.
For really grognard-y wargames, you just can’t touch the Combat Mission series of games.
and X-COM…YEAH, baby! Still excellent, after all these years. (It ain’t all about graphics.)
