Yes. I highly recommend it! I’ve been writing simple games since I was about 5. And it’s easier than ever with the programming resources available, not to mention AI.
And nowadays there are also community-maintained open-source games one can work on. Also, events like Game Jams (and open-source game engines).
The AI-generated assets can certainly cut down on development time if you know how to leverage them.
I’d recommend Scratch, for one. It’s great for learning the principles of programming, without being bogged down with learning some specific language at the same time, and it has a lot of things built in to make it easier to make games specifically. Your school might even already have clubs or classes for teaching it.
