Anyone know how Gandalf came to know the Old Took?
Its glossed over in the first chapter of The Hobbit but Google isn’t helping me find any further relevant information.
Gandalf was amused by and interested in Hobbits generally, and came to the Shire with some frequency. It’s not surprising he would get to know the local VIPs over his many visits.
Yeah I figured it was nothing beyond that but thought they could have possibly also gone, or met, on some sort of “adventure.”
JRRT mentions the Old Took repeatedly in volumes 6 and 12 of HOMES, and while he provides much detail (a great deal of it contradictory) about the geezer, (for a while he was named Frodo) no new details his relationship with Gandalf emerged.
And the Old Took does seem the type of Hobbit that Gandalf would relate with.
Old Took was his dealer (in the finest leaf. hint hint).
Dumbledore was clearly patterned after Gandalf.
Dumbledore was gay.
Yup.
Now there’s a mental image I didn’t need! Pass the brain bleach, please.
