As a follow up to this earlier thread, I see that the man responsible has been sentenced to 8 months’ gaol. That seems rather light to me.
I don’t know. The guy seems really stupid, but not abusive. I think he’s learned his lesson. What an idiot.
Agree with C3. That level of stupidity should be punished, but–if the article is to be believed–he was not acting out of malice. He also seems genuinely remorseful. 8 months seems appropriate.
Good lord 'n butter, if the level of punishment is to be commensurate with the level of stupidity, this guy ought to get life.
To whit:
Stupidity level for lying about girl’s injury: DefCon 3.
Stupidity level for not connecting “dryer” with “tumbling round in metal tube with hard plastic fins” and “bloody fucking hot”: DefCon 5.
And this was a man studying to be a teacher?
I can’t recall who here said it, but it’s true: stupidity should hurt.
I agree with the OP that the sentence is too light. Whether the man showed himself capable of killing a child and I don’t see how it being out of sheer stupidity rather than malice should make the sentence so much lighter.
He’s learned his lesson? Maybe. But for someone dumb enough to think putting a kid in the dryer will result in a good time, I’d wager he’s a slow learner. Sure it may not be a kid in the dryer next time, there are plenty of other ways stupidity can be a danger to others, especially on this guy’s apparent level.
Now, if they sentenced him to 8 months in a dryer…
Gaol looks like something Godzilla would yell.
GAAOOOOOOLLLLLLLLL!
Assuming, of course that it was pronounced anything like how it’s spelled.
