GARDENERS: is liriope the same thing as monkey grass?

I’m having a really hard time telling if there’s a difference or if I’m seeing mis-labeled photos on teh intertubes. Those things aren’t all that reliable, I hear. :wink:

We’re renovating an older house and have a landscaping budget of approximately zero, so my mother-in-law has been providing us with some from her yard as a groundcover. I can understand someone not in that situation not wanting it, as it does spread, I guess. Still, pretty easy to just mow over.

Yes, it’s the same. There are plain and variegated (striped) varieties.

I just think it’s ugly and reminds me of things people plant at, like, banks.
