Gardening Question: squirrels eating paper bags

Our friendly neighborhood squirrels seem to have decided that our gardening and charcoal paper bags are tasty. The are constantly eating holes through the bags and we can’t figure out how to stop them. They don’t eat the things inside the bags, just the bags themselves. Do you have any suggestions on how to stop these little critters from destroying all of our bags?

There’s a bitter tasting spray called Ro-pel you can buy for about $20. I just keep stuff in an aluminum trash can with a lid, or in the garage or shed. Squirrels will chew anything. Pumpkins, cucumbers, gourds, corn… They dragged a plastic tablecloth off my deck, chewed it up into strips and used it in building a big old nest in a tree. Quite festive it looked up there, until it fell down in a windstorm and I was picking up bits of tablecloth for weeks.
