Garmin/GPS glitches (All 7-11s sell gas?)

I love my Garmin but it has one annoying glitch. Whenever I ask for a list of gas stations nearby, it always includes every 7-Eleven in the list.

Now there might be parts of the country where 7-Elevens sell gasoline, but not one of the ones I’ve been to around here has fuel pumps.

So apparently there’s something in the Garmin database that thinks that 7-Elevens are all gas stations.

Anyone else have this kind of experience with their favorite GPS/Satnav services?

Yes, some 7-11s do. For what it’s worth, I tested with Google Maps near two 7-11s and it only pointed out the one that actually had gas.

This is long fixed, but Yahoo and/or MapQuest (pre-Google) used to tell you to make a left over a median down the street from where I grew up.

GPS devices usually have lists of what are called POIs or points of interest. They’re usually divided into categories like supermarkets, restaurants, hospitals etc. and gas stations are often lumped in together with convenience stores because that’s pretty much how it is in real life. It’s not really what I’d call a ‘glitch’ or an error, it’s simply a case of their POI database not being detailed enough…
