Gateway has recently started making a 42" Plasma TV and from what I’ve seen as far as pricing goes it’s actually pretty cheap. Is there any reason that it is so inexpensive as compared with other brands ($2999 as opposed to $4999 and up)? Did they cut corners on some things or what? I was contemplating buying one but I haven’t seen any reviews for it and I’m not too up on what makes a plasma TV good or not (compared to other plasma TV’s). Thanks in advance for any info.
That is a good price and I think most buyers will like it. I’ve been looking at those things too.
Two helpful sights are AVS Forum
and Plasma TV Buyers Guide
The forum would be a good place to start.
I found the buyers guide to be useful too but I am somewhat suspicious of their apparent love for Panasonic displays.
I think as a rule you should definately try to get a live demo of any display you might want to buy. Some displays have a noticable hum.

I read an off-line review in a home theater-type magazine. Basically, the review said that you could buy it and not be disappointed, but only if you never looked at another Plasma TV in your life.
Otherwise, you’d notice that your colors weren’t as bright, your picture wasn’t as sharp, and the picture quality just wasn’t there.
