Gathering Nominations for Best "Weird Al" Songs (Poll to follow when nominations tallied)

A few years ago, fusoya posted a series of polls:

What is the best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s debut album?
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s In 3-D
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Dare To Be Stupid
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Polka Party
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s UHF (And Other Stuff)
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Even Worse
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Off The Deep End
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Alapalooza
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Bad Hair Day
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Running With Scissors
Best song on Weird Al Yankovic’s Poodle Hat

The following are the ones I, personally, would consider voting for as his Best:

Dare To Be Stupid
One More Minute
Yoda
Christmas at Ground Zero
The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
The Saga Begins
Genius In France

Ha! Doesn’t surprise me. Well, since there isn’t a “Best Overall” poll then I suppose it’s worth it to continue with the nominations for a new poll. I’ll consider the results from those polls as I put together the new poll. Maybe all the “Best From X Album” songs that received more than 10 votes can automatically go into the new poll whether then get nominated in this Thread or not.

Thanks for the heads up!

White And Nerdy
Genius In France
Smells Like Nirvana
Bob
Christmas At Ground Zero
One More Minute
Craigslist
The Saga Begins
Another One Rides The Bus
I Lost On Jeopardy

And the original, recorded in a bathroom, My Bologna

Everything that isn’t Airline Amy.

My favorites:

  1. Dare to be Stupid
  2. Nature Trail to Hell
  3. Eat It
  4. I Lost on Jeopardy
  5. Like a Surgeon
  6. White and Nerdy
  7. Smells Like Nirvana
  8. Amish Paradise
  9. You Don’t Love Me Anymore
  10. Christmas at Ground Zero
  11. Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota

I can’t believe this! My all-time favorite Weird Al song hasn’t been mentioned ONCE!

“Headline News” (the parody of “Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm” by the Crash Test Dummies)

Smells Like Nirvana, which I like a great deal better than the original.
Christmas at Ground Zero, which is in our family caroling repertoire.

Al’s done a lot of funny, well-done parodies and originals, but I’d rank songs like these, which stand on their own and outstrip the originals, over tired, labored and rather obvious choices like Eat It and Fat and LIke A Surgeon.

I had always loved “Christmas at Ground Zero”, but am I the only one who just can’t listen to it anymore ever since the term “Ground Zero” became so closely linked to the Sept. 11th attack?

I would say that among his best are Albuquerque, The Biggest Ball of Twine, Trapped in the Drive-Thru, The Night Santa Went Crazy, Since You’ve Been Gone, and Don’t Download This Song. I may not be the best judge of Albuquerque - it was the first song of his I heard so I could be biased.

  1. White and Nerdy

  2. Amish Paradise

  3. Fat

I only saw one nomination for “Bob,” so I’ll second it. Good Bob Dylan style parody, done entirely in palindromes.

Another One Rides the Bus
Eat It

Hardware store
Smells like Nirvana
Saga Begins
That’s Your Horoscope For Today
Don’t download this song

It’s All About the Pentiums
