Gauss Pistol: I must own this!

Link

I must have one of these.
Not really useful, but damned if that don’t look cool.

No, I don’t think you understand - It is I who must own one. How can I call myself a physics nut if I don’t have an electromagnetic gun?

No. It is I that must have an electromagnetic pistol.
Tomorrow, if not later this evening.

looks like you have to plug it in to charge it. Hmm.

Hey, just what you see, pal.

“Capacitor Bank Energy 209 Joules”

“Muzzle Energy 3.8 Joules”

The thing’s a toaster. A battery-powered toaster that spits metal at you, but still a toaster.

35 m/s muzzle velocity?

6 gm rounds?

20 seconds to recharge?

Man, I’m packin’ a nine.

I want one. And a phased plasma rifle in the forty watt range.

From the FAQ

Yeah, I gotta get me one of those.

Let me know when they scale the pistol up to a vehicular-grade gauss cannon, firing 10-pound shells. (Which, according to Uncle Albert’s Car Wars catalog, should be 2038.)

The Gauss Gun, with the long barrel option, was always a favorite for my cars.

I wonder just how much I’ll regret sending this link to my engineer roommate…

So they finally produced one, I have been waiting since around 1982 and Traveler™. How many shots does it have and what is its ROF?

Jim

Can I buy this in a combo pack with a Tangler?*

*Paranoia reference, thank you!

Also, any other Marathon players in here? Doesn’t this look like what the BOBs carry?

“When disassembled, many of the plastic parts could pose a choking hazard.”

Well, screw that!

Based on the specs a paintball marker would be a more formidable weapon.

OK, I know I’m setting myself up for “It doesn’t do anything. That’s the beauty of it.”, but…

…what does it do?

Frogblast the ventcore!

It propels a small bullet at a velocity similar to that of a CO[sub]2[/sub] pellet gun using electronics and magnetism to provide the propulsion instead of CO[sub]2[/sub] or gunpowder or compressed air. The current model can shoot around three times per minute.

It doesn’t do anything. That’s the beauty of it.
