Gay marriage in Minnesota

It could have been that people didn’t like the idea of the anti-gay amendment but still didn’t want gay marriage. Their pushing forward at this time was a risk but, even at the time, I thought a good one.

One of the strongest messages that was used (in my opinion) during the attempt to ban gay marriages was the “Amendments are meant to bestow rights and freedoms, not take it away. Look at the history of the U.S. and judge the effect of ‘taking rights away’ amendments and judge for yourself how they worked out”.

Snopes actually has an article on that already.

My sister took me to the hospital yesterday and then out for lunch afterwards. Since it is a matter close to her heart, she kept up with the debate on her smart phone while we ate, apologizing (unnecessarily) all the while. Every flippin’ senator had to put in their 2 cents.

But we did it.

And Gov Dayton signed it into law! August 1st is when it will be legal.

Colorado passed a Civil Unions law earlier this year as well and they started issuing them to gay couples two weeks ago. (They can’t do gay marriage because a ban was put into the state constitution several years ago.)

Welcome to the club Gopher State!

Aw man…no June weddings?

Apparently all the currently scheduled June wedding couples lobbied the state for the delay. They didn’t want to compete with Teh Fabulous.

Damn, I was hoping for at least one *Seven Brides For Seven Brothers*-themed June wedding.

I shoot concerts, but the forum where I discuss video shooting issues seems to be overrun with wedding videographers, and they seem to be a remarkably conservative bunch for the most part. So there might be a business opportunity in shooting gay weddings.
