Gay rights

ok i don’t really want to start a thread on wether being gay is right or not. i just want to ask this question and see what people have to say. the whole gay marrage and lots of other gay issuse have been in the news a lot lately. everyone seems to be saying that they don’t have to agree with someone being gay and thay can evern think its a sin because they are in the U.S.A they have the right to think and belive what they want and i agree with this. i feel no one has to agree with it and thay can think all gays will burn in hell or whatever there “bible” states. but what about the gays rights to do the same. it seems to me that its a case of what is good for the goose is not good for the gander. it fine for them to disagree with it. but its not ok for me to agree with it. not sure if that all makes sence or not. i just don’t get the lodgic of that thinking. I am free to think or feel how i want but you are not. i think we have done is before with other groups of people(blacks and woman to name a few). just thought i would throw that out there and see what everyone else thinks.

This should probably be in IMHO, not GQ. But what exactly are you saying? That gay people should have the right to believe all straight people are going to hell? Well, if they want to believe that… they can go right ahead. Nobody’s stopping 'em. In theory, everybody is allowed to think whatever they want. Acting upon those beliefs (like killing straight people or harrassing them constantly) is a different matter, of course.

As for not granting them the same rights as heterosexual couples, I think that’s just because tradition and religion overrule logic. Sure, we’ve done the same with black people and women. But you can’t actually expect us to learn from history, can you? That’s ridiculous.

If there were a contest to pick the most incoherent OP in Straight Dope history, this one would be a candidate. thoth200, I don’t mean to rag on you, you being a newbie and all, and as yet uninitiated into the Way of the Doper. But if you want a long, fulfilling posting career here, you would do well to acquaint yourself with our customs, such as expressing your ideas clearly, and being able to explain yourself when challenged.

thoth200. Welcome to the boards.

I’ve closed this thread rather than moving it to a more appropriate forum for the reason that the previous posters have brought up–you need to make your point more clearly.

Feel free to ask your basic question either in IMHO or Great Debates. I think IMHO is probably OK.

You’re actually looking for opinions rather than that clear-cut factual answer that we need in General Questions.
