So the lab down the hall was trying to make some extra space, and invited everyone over to swipe whatever glassware/equipment they wanted. Among the stuff was a pristine 1531. Works perfectly, self-calibrates, goes from 100 RPM to 25,000 RPM, and has inputs and outputs for syncing up to a camera for high-speed photography.
Yup. Free. They used to use it for a teaching unit in one of the biology labs, but they’d discontinued that lab years ago. I guess it had been sitting in a cabinet for 20 years, and its purpose had been forgotten. Of course, I saw it and went, “HOLY SHIT.”

I am definitely going to try to work that out. In the meantime, however, I also got one of those electric rotators along with a ton of “optical illusion discs”. I’m going to work it into our band’s stage show.
