It’s pure joy to open a box containing any item of consumer electronics. The plastic bags, the styrofoam, the manuals (which are for wimps), the remote, the cables the batteries… And there is a certain smell, plastic and cardboard… mmmm
And today is a day of pure joy.

I finally made my mind up to not by a plasma TV. Yes, they’re dropping in price, but even at $5000, it would clean out most of my savings and not leave me money to go on a vacation. And even if they have been around for a while, it’s only recently they are available at a low price and for mass consumtion, and I’m a bit wary about quality. So I’ll wait till 2008 or so, when, presumably, Europe will get HDTV.
But I didn’t want to wait getting a new TV. My old crappy 20" Nokia is the weak link in an otherwise good entertainment system. And most movies are widescreen anyways. So I went out and bought me a 32" Panasonic 100Hz with all the goodies at a local sale for $1500. Even though it’s not the thing I really wanted, it’s such a big step up from the crappy old TV, that I’m thrilled. I’ve been watching The Usual Suspects, this afternoon just for that 16:9 goodness. -
My ISP dropped me a mail this morning, asking me if I wanted to upgrade my DSL. I currently have static IP, 2.5 Mb/s downstream and 768 Kb/s upstream, paying $60 a month. If I upgrade, I’ll get 26Mb/s downstrean and 4 Mb/s up, for $50/month. There’s a new company who’s offering 10Mb/s for $45, so this is the answer from my ISP. Yay, oh yay. I signed up without hesitating. Ten times faster for less money.
Only my MPSIMS for today. It would be nicer if there was a woman in my life, or if I had found a job, but hey, lacking those things, I find joy in what I can.
