Geinoh Yamashirogumi

As mentioned in the thread on bands with great range, there is one called Geinoh Yamashirogumi. However, you need to be able to read Japanese if you want to be able to find their CDs (outside of Akira.) So here’s some links:

All of their CDs:

Akira

Geinoh Yamashirogumi Sampler (features songs from several CDs, and a composite version of Rinne that’s 20 minutes long)

Rinne

Ecophony Gaia

Osorezan (Rock/Traditional/Noise…all in one song!)

Yamato (Traditional Japanese music + wonkified)

Ohgonrin Sanyo (Choral music + wonkified)

Africa (African Tribal)

Silk Road (Various)

Once you’ve added stuff to your cart, you should be able to flop Amazon Japan into English mode to complete the order.

Entirely different band, but turan. (by Nahoko Kakiage) is worth checking as well:

Thanks for the links. I was going to mention Akira in that thread since he isn’t exactly a household name, but I didn’t get round to it. Ohgonrin Sanyo looks interesting, since the choral works I like I like very much (I’m the same way with organ music and death metal).

I just got “Ecophony Gaia” and “Ecophony Rinne,” both of which are said to form a “trilogy” with the score to Akira. They’re just totally awesome albums; they’re like if Popol Vuh took their Herzog scores to Japan and did them with early samplers and digital synthesizers.

I only have Akira; I will add the others to my shopping list. Must dig out my Popul Vuh now too . . .
