Ahhhh GenCon, while I was certainly much happier when it was still in Milwaukee, we still do make the pilgrimage down to Indy every year to check out the four + days of gaming, at to reassure ourselves that there are STILL people geekier than ourselves.
Well, I missed it this year because of this monster fiasco. My doctors just reeeaaallly didn’t want me traveling out of state in a niccceeee long car ride after having a blood clot, also they would rather I didn’t expose a good bajillion con goers to chickenpox if they have never ha it before.
So, tell me, did I miss anything cool? I know last year they seemed to have tamed it down incredibly, I mean, last year Wizards of the Coast didn’t even have their castle. It was disappointing.Any high points of the con? Any must see costumes anyone got pictures of? Someone here has to have gone this year!
I went, though I spent 90% of my time in the Sagamore Ballroom, where the RPGA events were held.
I don’t recall hearing about any major announcements, and the Exhibit Hall was, indeed, a lot less elaborate than it has been in the past. Attendance seemed fairly good, though I never ran into massive throngs of people, as I have in past years (esp. on Saturday).
Oh, and I’d point out that the Steampunk look is threatening to pass up the Anime look as the #1 costume choice. I can’t tell you how many top hats and funky goggles I saw.
My husband and I participated in the Zombie Walk on Fri nite - somewhere around 75 of us shambled our way through & around the Convention Center. The Billy Mays zombie (hawking OxyBlood) and the Umbrella Corp family (including the 2 young’uns with the “Take Your Kids to Work Day” t-shirts) were my favorites.
This was our first GenCon, so I can’t speak to how it compared w/ previous years.
