ETA I think it’s more accurate to say that we started here as younger white men and over the past twenty years we hounded out all the women and people of color and now we’re old white men.

You know, I keep seeing that posted, but never anything to back it up.

There were a lot of threads in which women explicitly said why they were leaving.

Cite? Especially the “lot”.

I do get the impression that the board of some years ago was probably not a site I would have joined in the first place.

It wasn’t that bad- mostly. The predecessor of FQ, etc were all fairly decent. But yeah, we had threads like “Who was hotter, MaryAnn or Ginger?”, and a woman complaining about their breasts or whatever, would get “pics or it didn’t happen” stupid joke or two.

Hardly. But they were allowed.

Maybe not that early, but yes. Posters thought that was harmless fun, but not so much. it wasn’t done out of meanness.

Message boards appeal to an older demographic.
