General Holiday gift ideas/helps

I have a few ideas for my wife that I’m working on…

  1. Any thoughts on gifts for staying warm inside during the winter? Warm clothes or an electric blanket are kind of obvious. Something unique in the clothing area or any especially cool features on an electric blanket would be interesting. Or something else even.

  2. I’m going to get her a new TV for her favorite TV watching room. I’ve never had a Smart TV but have used a couple a little. Don’t really care for the interface or the little remotes.

We do have a ChromeCast (in my favorite TV watching room) and it works great. Why shouldn’t I just get her a new TV, another Chromecast and even maybe a laptop/tablet to keep right with that TV? Seems like the flexibility would outweigh the cons that I’m aware of.

  1. I got her a Sonus system last year…just a 1 and a 3. Thinking of adding to it. Anybody know how the new Sonus 1 that was designed to work with Alexa might fit with the two that we have?

TIA!

  1. I LOVE my electric neck/shoulders/back wrap.

I put it on when I am on the couch (it does have to be plugged in) and it’s warm around my neck where I get cold and where I hold stress.

Does she have a Snuggie? The blanket kind, not you .

Thanks for the ideas Gigi and Pat! I wonder if there is an electric quilt designed just to get the bed heated up for about 15 minutes?

Also while I’m here I’m going to spell Sonos properly for searching purposes.

There are heated mattress pads that are great for pre-warming the bed and then switching off (although I leave mine on High all night in the depths of winter). The controller is right up by my head so I can roll over and adjust it as needed. They’re nice because the heat warms the bed through rather than just wafting up off the top layers.

There are also heated throws which are nice on the couch.

Heated mattress pad yesssssssssssssssssssss. Best thing ever for cold people.

Also, my mom got me one of these plush fleece throws from Wal Mart last year, just as a cheapy gift because we don’t give gifts in our family but mom really felt the need. Anyway, turns out that this is the most amazing blanket I’ve ever had and I’m not even a person who is often cold or needs to cuddle up with a blanket. But I am OBSESSED with it. In fact now that I see they are only $5 (it’s so amazing I thought maybe it was $500) I might go buy myself another - because the dogs are obsessed with it too.

TV stand with built-in electric “fireplace” for the new TV

My daughter replaced her (broken) TV with a Roku-enabled TV, so she can access Netflix and Sling. She said the best part is it’s a single remote. Right now it takes me three remotes to get to Netflix…

I want to give my garden-loving niece a thing to grow. (Last year she gave all the grownups home-made kokedamas. Mine has not fared well. I think a living present *from *me *to *her is a much more appropriate direction)

What’s nice that would grow easily in late summer/Mediterranean climate?

That’s too broad a question, especially as import regs probably mean you have a different selection available than most of the rest of the board.

I mean, how much space does she have? Is the rest of the garden in a particular style, or do you know what she likes? Is it a sunny or shady spot?

You’re probably best off going to a local garden centre and asking them for ideas.

I’ve been trying to figure out what to get my 21 year old son. He’s having a hard time adulting and frankly it wouldn’t be wise to give him cash. I think I’m going to go over to his apartment, shovel all the dirty laundry off the floor, and wash it for him.

Now I need some gift ideas for older ladies, if anyone has any…

A heated throw is a great idea! It can even double as a way to heat our bed up for a few minutes.

We had an electric blanket a long time ago…maybe even an electric mattress pad I can’t remember. I seem to recall that the feel of the wiring bugged us so we quit using it.

Tip: If you use a regular mattress pad, put it over the heated mattress pad to eliminate or dampen the feeling of wires.

That’s what I do, and I don’t feel the wires at all. Hmmm, it’s cold in the office and now I am imagining a nap in my pre-warmed bed.
