General iPhone 6 difficulties

My friend’s new iPhone 6 won’t show her how to delete old contacts that she had transfered from her previous LG Android. It won’t let her add new contacts from the calls she makes. It doesn’t seem to have a decent search feature. She can’t use the voice feature to tell it to call the nearest whatever. She has to unlock the phone every 5 minutes with a 6 digit code. She’s had it 3-4 days & is wondering what to do.

She should go on a weekday afternoon to either an Apple Store or a storefront for her carrier (Verizon, TMobile, etc). It’s really good to be able to talk to someone who’s a whiz with the phone you have and let them answer all of the questions you’ve got, and help you get the settings just where you want to be. In person.

I had my mom get an iPhone, because I have one too, and I told her I could help her when she needs it. Most of the time I can help her but if she starts trying to get me to do tech support via text, it’s hard. The last few times she’s had problems she went up to the local Verizon store (it’s not even a Verizon Verizon store - it’s just a Verizon Authorized Seller) in the middle of the day and there were nice young people working there that fixed her right up.

Thank you!

I was mistaken about the Old Contacts being transferred from her previous phone.

Anyway, the main thing is she is wondering what of these things can be easily fixed?

All of those issues sound like training problems to me.
There is a way to make a contact entry from numbers received or called, and the unlock screen timeout is settable, too.
She just needs some instructions.

… for the highlighted part. There are a couple of things you can do.

Go to Settings==> Touch ID & Passcode

1.) Add a fingerprint…- follow instructions
2.) Change Passcode - change it to a -6 digit code.
3. Turn Passcode off - not recommended

Also,
Go to Settings==> Display & Brightness

Change Auto-lock timer setting

She says you can change it to 5 min but not more. Can she?

Thanks

I would suggest that she establish her fingerprint as the passcode, then this issue is totally moot.

There’s (almost certainly) nothing wrong with the phone, the problem is that iOS (the iPhone operating system) works very differently from the previous phone’s Android operating system. I second the suggestion to go to an Apple Store when they aren’t busy and get a quick tutorial on how to use it.

Had to check the date of the OP…

New to her? I highly doubt it’s actually new. IPhone 6 was released almost 4 years ago.

The Apple Store still sells the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

Do you think Apple’s selling used ones from their own store? (I know Apple fans are “new and trendy” types, but “had to check the date of the post?” Seriously? They’re in the Apple Store on sale right now.)

Nope.
The iPhone 6 was originally released in September 2015 which wouldn’t even make it 3 years old. Secondly, the 32gb version was re-released in February 2017 as an entry level phone in Asia, Europe, and North America.

5 minutes is the max for Auto-lock. The alternative is “Never” but she would have to use the lock button whenever she was finished. Of course, this would be a drain on the battery and an security risk.

ETA: I believe the phone would still default to “30 seconds” in Low-Power mode.

She went to the Boost store where she got it. She recalls the man talked about
“settings in the phone that deal with wifi or needing to allow syncing or something…
But he said something about iCloud. If these settings aren’t right, it doesn’t work.”
So to summarize- can anyone fill in what settings on iPhone 6 might be keeping her from syncing iTunes?

Syncing how?
Over WiFi?
Plugging directly into her computer?
Over iCloud?

Well, no sooner did I post that than she lets my know that the iTunes starts synching to her iPhone
BUT she’s missing a lot of music.
We need to figure out how to transfer the files back from Media Player, or her old iPod.

She needs to get all her music into her iTunes library.
She may need a third-party app to transfer the data off her old iPod.
Music from Media Play should be importable, as long as she can find the original files on her disc.

She can change the passcode to 4 digits if 6 is inconvenient, and as others said, she can set fingerprints (up to 10) to unlock. If she wants to use Apple Pay, she’ll need that anyway.

You’re off a year. It was released in Sept. 2014.
