It’s nice that, after having to put up with an hour of non-stop whining, name calling, and inanity by my 2 and 5 year old, I can pop in here and see firsthand that there are “grownups” who lack my daughters’ good sense and emotional maturity.
I agree wholeheartedly with Aholibah as well, but differ on one point:
I will not be renewing my subscription.
As a free board, I had no complaints, but as a paying customer, I have different expectation about appropriate behaviour for an admin, and I’m not willing to further contribute funds to a board whose representative often displays contempt for members who ask valid questions.
It was suggested that anyone unhappy with the service should leave, and indeed, that’s what I intend to do. I do, however, think it is appropriate for a dissatisfied customer to tell a business why they are unhappy with the service before they leave. (I also expect a few “Don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out!” replies.)
I like Ed’s column, and I generally like and respect the mods, admin, and membership here, but the money spent here can be spent at other places where I feel that the customer’s patronage is not taken for granted.

And I can completely respect this post. I can understand why folks disagree with the admins, even if the complaints seem meritless to me. And you phrased them in a calm, respectful fashion; and you put your money where your mouth is.

He also criticized Rico’s closing of the drug thread, and the closing of the thread about circumventing China’s firewall. Maybe it’s just that your complaints always seem meritless to him. Which probably says more about the personal differences between the two of you than anything about his attitude towards the moderation of this board.

Hijacking to say that I’m sorry to see you go. Though I disagree with you politically, I’ve never forgotten that you were the first person to welcome me to the SDMB when I finally ventured into a contentious thread to make my maiden post. And a girl never forgets her first, especially when it was so gentle and kind.
It’s also a shame to see another '99 leave. The oldtimers are a vital part of the board’s culture & history.

On topic: FTR, I thought Tuba’s apology to HeyHomie was kinda lame, as it was one of those nonapology-apologies: the ol’ “I’m sorry if you thought I was rude” ploy. Meh. Not good enough, at least it wouldn’t be for me. Geeze, she accused him of being a “dick” in ATMB. Would’ve gotten her a warning or admonishment, were she anyone but an admin.
Finally, as with many others, I agree with Aholibah’s long list above, without exception as far as I could see. Well done, ma’am!
New rule suggestion: Moderators and Administrators may not use a thinly disguised threat of banning as a personal insult.
In other words, threats of banning would need to be in context to an offense. Moderators and Administrators shouldn’t make veiled threats at all and must account for them. Rank hath it privileges, but with it comes accountibility also.
It really does leave a bad taste in my mouth for a mod to be creepy. If you are pissed off, at least be straight-forward about it. Don’t be a jerk.
