Sounds like the geocachers in your area aren’t setting enough of a challenge. The easy caches around here are definitely not in plain sight. You have to hunt for them. (we’ve spent upwards of 20 minutes looking for “easy” caches.) Geo caching has taken me all over the valley I live in, rediscovering out of the way spots I’d forgotten were there. I’ve found an ammo box under an old bridge, a minicache by the riverside, a microcache under some steps in a park, and others of course. None of them have been easy finds. They all took some of looking to find.
I agree that you might have more fun looking in more outlying areas. Try pinpointing caches using the Google maps search and go for the ones that take some hiking on trails to find.
