George Clinton & P-Funk on Craig Ferguson's show last night (2/1/11)

Last night, Craig did away with all the endless “I’m a flaming anal-sex queen” jokes and put the fucking skeleton robot in the broom closet for the night, and instead used his show to have a serious discussion about race-relations in the USA, in honor of Black History Month.

He interviewed historian-scholar Dr. Cornel West for almost the full hour, in what I thought was an excellent bit of television, asking some very intelligent questions about the Black Experience in the United States. (remember that Ferguson was born and raised in Scotland, and he said he learned very little of American history in school)

At the end of the show, George Clinton and P-Funk played one song, (“One Nation Under A Groove”) but ol’ George was almost unrecognizable, as he has shaved off his trademark dreadlocks with the multi-colored braids.

Anyone know what prompted George Clinton to radically change his signature style?

No clue - but I appreciate hearing about this; I’ll have to find a clip online…

It was good seeing George Clinton & P-Funk on TV, but the interview Craig did with Dr. West was very informative and entertaining, and by far the most enjoyable thing I have seen CF do in the past couple of years—Well worth checking out.

It reminded me again of how intelligent and literate Craig Ferguson obviously is, and made me wish more than ever that he would drop the tired, stale, and rabidly un-funny schtick he has glommed onto over the past few years, and get back to his spontanious, stream-of-consciousness style that he originally started his talk show with.

Maybe he decided to make a fresh start and adopt a new look after kicking his crack addiction. (I hope that’s the explanation anyway. I’d like Clinton to stick around for a while yet.) Or maybe he just decided to change his style. In any case I’m going to watch this episode on DVR in a few minutes, and thanks for the recommendation.

I also wondered if he has cleaned up his act (George Clinton could definitely teach Lindsay, Charlie and Paris a thing or two about a thing or two) and his new look is reflective of a new lifestyle.

I think that George Clinton had a son who recently died, and maybe that was a turning point for his father…
