I haven’t been to the island, but being as how we alls from Stone Mountain, Georgia, we wish you a happy and safe time!!

I am salivating over the prospect of having a season pass to Stone Mountain once we get moved back there. It’s been so long since I was able to climb a mountain. For a kid that grew up in Colorado and Georgia and has been living in the flatlands of Florida, it is an awesome place.
Voted Rookie of the Year in MPSIMs and the Pit, along with Best One-liners.
And I don’t plan on keeping this as my sig for long, just until the winning buzz wears off.

Hey, Mully! Management of Stone Mountain Park was recently leased to a private company, the same folks who run Dollywood. Lord knows what will become of our fair mountain. Those guys are liable to put the mountain in a huge bra and call it Dollywood II (or would that be Dollywood 1? Dollywood 1/2?).

Carl, I am a local Georgian and I have been to Jekyll Island many times.
It is a great place to get away. Not a lot of tourists (very few young people). It is quite and peaceful. The beaches are not white sand (too many shrimp boats stirring up the water), but the sand is quite firm and great for taking walks along the beach with your wife.
They have paved bike paths all around the island. You can either take your own bikes or rent them. They have some really good golf courses if you like golf. They also have a nice tennis center if you are into that. There are some historic places to visit on the island and there a other things to do off the island.
St. Simmons is very close. They have a lighthouse that you can climb and there is Fort Fredrica a site of a civil war battle I believe. There are some good seafood restaurants in the area. There are also some outlet malls in the general vicinity.
Savanah is about an hour or so North of Jekyll and there are a lot of historic sites there as well.
I love going to Jekyll. In fact, the wife and I will probably be heading there in late April or early May.

I’ve been there a number of times.
It’s a pretty quiet little place, and–I suppose you already know this–it was the former winter retreat of some rich people.
If you like restaurants (my #1 vacation priority!), well, I don’t have a lot to say. There are a few diner type places, but most real restaurants are attached to hotels (although I’m sure they’re willing to accept anyone’s money).
St Simons, on the other hand, has numerous good places to eat.
Both places have lots of good biking trails, too.
It is a great getaway. Many times I’ve wanted to just hit the road and just go to Jekyll and hide.
