German food in Seattle

Sigh, Hubby’s mom used to make sauerbraten& potato pancakes with gingersnap gravy. She’s now old and doesn’t cook. Her caregiver tried to reproduce her recipe; no joy.

I’m trying to find a place that makes such a thing. It sounds awful to me, but I’m willing to try it…once.

The problem is, I’ve checked every German place in Seattle. Some have it on their internet menus, but not on theirreal menu.

Any ideas, my Seattle neighbors?

I could go for a real Wienerschnitzel. Not a fake chicken or pork one. With pommes frites and an anchovy on top.

Or I could just learn to make it myself.

Did you try Die Bierstube near Ravenna and Rooselvelt?

Bruno’s European Cafe in Tacoma; I think Sauerbraten is the special on Saturdays. Call ahead and see if they’ll take a reservation. I tried to get in a few weeks ago and the place was packed.

Lots of Scandanavian joints over in Poulsbo; drawing a blank on German.

Bob Ducca, yes, that was the first one I called.

Robot Arm I’ll give them a call.

Johnny L.A. Google German food in Seattle, that, they had.

The closest I came was a place in Ballard called the People’s Cafe. They have it as a special, but other than calling every day to see if today is the day, I have no way of knowing.

I would think you’d want to go to Leavenworth instead. (A bit of a long drive from Seattle, though).

Well, if you otherwise have some business on Bainbridge…

Feierabend in Seattle:

Fantastic food, great atmosphere, big wooden tables built for pounding your giants mugs of beer on!

I just got back from there. Had the Schweinebraten; very good, but they don’t have their liquor license yet at the new location.

Peoples’ Pub, I believe. Just call and talk to Jon, the owner. I’m sure he’ll either tell you when they’ll have it again, or more likely, ask you when you plan to drop by…

I would’ve expected pitchers of beer there, not mugs. I guess those got sent to the minors after the surgery.

real sauerkraut doesn’t taste sour. it tastes a little like dry red wine.
