I heard some good things about this so I went to see it today. Not sure if it lives up to the hype (which was very very high) but I did like it quite a bit and I would recommend it if someone was curious to see it. Not quite a horror movie and not quite a comedy but it worked.
I liked that it did not end the way I thought it would and actually played on that assumption and tricked me.
It sounds great to me, except for the reviews citing lots of gore during the last parts.
I got excited about the Austrian horror film Goodnight Mommy back in 2014, went to see it, loved the first two-thirds, and was traumatized by the body horror of the final half-hour.
I love horror movies but don’t care to see flying dismembered limbs, flesh-flaying, or cement blocks dropped onto testicles. Is Get Out all right for me to see?
I saw it yesterday, and I almost never watch horror movies. (I particularly don’t like movies like Human Centipede or the Saw movies, although I’ve never seen any of those.) But I went to see this, partly because the critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes is 99% (and it was at 100% last weekend).
In the end, I enjoyed this movie. Without giving anything away, there was some gore, but it was not gratuitous and the movie was very well done. I recommend seeing it.
For people worried about the horror, it isn’t a traditional horror movie. The tone reminded me of an underrated movie from a few years back called You’re Next. It was like just coat of horror on the surface but not really a horror movie. It does have some gore.
