I’ve changed my mind after debates in GD and admitted it.
I wish we could ban certain topics instead. If you look in the Pit, on any given day, there are 10 threads about “This person is picking on gays” and “Teabaggers are stupid”. It’s like Chinese restaurants- different name on the front, but it’s all the same thread.
Barn House. No question.
I voted MPSIMS. I’d prefer to merge IMHO and MPSIMS, merge CS and TGR, get rid of the Chicago forums, and expand GD’s remit so you can just post interesting links to news that are likely to spark a discussion, as opposed to having to think up some stupid contrived “debate” to bring the topic up in GD, or risk having it buried under a load of cat threads in MPSIMS.
I voted Cafe Society. I was thinking whichever one was removed, its topics and threads would spill over into the other forums. That one seemed the most innocuous. Maybe that wasn’t what the OP had in mind, though.

The Barn House. I stopped paying yearly subscriptions when that went up.
I would merge CoCC and CoSR.
I went for the Game Room, but don’t really have anything against it - just I’m not really a games player or sports fan and hardly ever look in there.
Next (of the ones in the poll) would have been Cafe Society, which I’m surprised only had 1 vote. There’s a lot of clutter in there IMO - polls I’m not interested in, and were it removed the worthwhile content would go back to being posted here in IMHO or MPSIMS like in the days before CS was added to the boards.
Ditch the Kitty Pictures Forum.
I voted for The Game Room. I know why it’s there – back when games were in CS, there was a point where it got a bit messy with all the threads. Every time I peek in TGR it seems dead.
Ditto re SD Chicago and The Barn House. The former doesn’t mean anything if you don’t live in the area. I’ve only been in TBH twice – both times I was like, “Huh?!?” and clicked away from it.
The Pit. It is a castrated pussified version of its former glory and should be put out of its misery. I am sad to report that the Carebears have won.
Any one not on that list, starting with Chicago. There doesn’t need to be separate forums for Cecil and Staff columns, either.
I never understood MPSIMS. Everything posted there could in theory find a home elsewhere.
I voted Game Room, but my heart says Comments on Staff Reports.
I voted Game Room just because there’s not much going on in there. I enjoy the sports talk, but I’m not much into video games.
For the purposes of this poll, I would dump MPSIMS, it’s IMHO with an even more cutesy name.
But really, I would totally rework nearly the entire board structure if I had THE POWER:
– ATMB would stay as is.
– I’d combine Cecil’s Columns and Staff Reports into a single forum called “Comments on The Straight Dope Column.”
– If they must exist, Straight Dope Chicago would be stuffed into a separate category with The Barn House called “Chicago: Home of The Straight Dope.” This would be at the bottom of the boards. If given total power, they would be deleted.
– General Questions would remain as is.
– Great Debates would remain as is.
– The 2010 Election forum would be deleted. We are exactly two weeks from the election and the place is a ghost town. It is an experiment that failed and shouldn’t be repeated.
– Cafe Society would remain as is.
– The Game Room would remain as is but the thread games would be moved to their own subforum within The Game Room.
– IMHO and MPSIMS would be merged as they serve the same purpose.
– The BBQ Pit would remain unchanged.
Which is why Game Room was created. It collects the game threads in one place (or quarantines them, depending on your PoV).
I too would vote off SD Chicago.
Plus, it doesn’t really make any sense. A thread for playing games - Feuds, Mornington Crescent, etc. - makes perfect sense. A thread for discussing sports and games also makes sense. It doesn’t make any sense to roll them both into one.
Either the game threads should be in MPSIMS, or the sports/games discussion should be in Cafe Society. Or both.
I voted MPSIMS but could as easily have voted IMHO; I have no idea what suits a thread for one of those forums more than another, and if I’m looking for a thread that was in one of them it’s pretty random whether I click through to the right subforum first or not.
