Hey, cool, someone from JP. I live in Roslindale and bike through JP on the way to work every day.
As far as I can tell, his portrayal of Boston is generally as accurate as his portrayal of the law. Crossing Jordan, on the other hand, seems to actually try to look like it takes place in Boston. Even the view from the office windows is pretty much what you’d see if you looked out of the building that houses the office in the show. Interestingly, in the show they have huge oval windows, which are clearly not present on the exterior shots of the building. And the show’s pretty stupid in general, as well.
Because Evergreen Terrace, the neighborhood Homer, Marge, and the kids live in in Springfield is NOTHING like the actual Evergreen Terrace in Springfield, Illinois (my hometown). How dare you show Evergreen Terrace as a peaceful neighborhood? We all know that ET has the worst crime rates and poorest inhabitants in the city! Furthermore…
THERE ARE NO CARTOON CHARACTERS WALKING AROUND IN EVERGREEN TERRACE!!!
Such deception is terrible! How many innocent viewers might be lured into visiting or even moving to Evergreen Terrace based on what they saw on YOUR TV show? Have you thought of that Mr. Heartless Dog-Kicking Pot-licking Scumbucket? Huh? Huh?
pant!pant!pant!
Because it was probably cheaper/easier for the production to send their second unit out to shoot something slummy-esque in LA than hire a team in Boston to get the obligatory shots.
Yet another reason NOT to shoot actual footage of Jamaica Plain.
I saw an X-Files episode set in Okoboji, Iowa and there were mountains in the background. Mom and I got a good laugh out of that one. Again, TV shows can’t always afford to get actual footage of real places.
So okay, yeah, maybe Kelley did take a few liberties with the fair jewel that is Boston, Mass. I hardly doubt that people are going to avoid visiting your area just because of a TV show. And if they do…
…they can just get squicked.
(Er, what does “squicked” mean, anyway? I hope it’s nothing unseemly.)
REALLY REALLY NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! IN FACT, SPOILER!
Drill a hole in between the person’s eyes and an inch or so above. Clear away the bone but leave the blood for lubricant. Ideally you should have the hole roughly in between the two lobes so there’s some, ah, rubbing action going.
FWIU, Springfield is actually based on a town in Washington state, where Goening grew up. And most of the characters are based on people he knew.
Just FYI.
That’s what I’m guessing. And I suppose they could have set it in a real slummy 'hood in Boston, but I can’t think of one that wouldn’t get more upset than I did. Might be a lawsuit there. So mmmKay.
