Getting logged off every few minutes

Is it just me, or everyone?

I logged on 3 times this morning… and I had to log on again to post this message.

In Russia, server logs YOU off.

Is the “Remember me” box checked when you log in?

Yup.

Am I to understand by these replies that it’s not everyone being logged off all the time? The dope only hates me?

I get logged out more frequently as well. Using the usual technique of reading the forums and then making a search for new posts, had to log in to make that search.

Using Chrome on Vista if that helps.

I’m having the same issue

I did check the remember me box this last time, but the time before that, I logged in and did not check the box. It logged me off when I switched forums. Weird.

I’ve passed this on to the administrators.

It’s been a problem for months. You’d think they would have done something by now.

You’ve been getting logged out for months?

Yes. Others too. There were a couple of threads about it. Here’s one from February.

Ok. I’ll let them know about that, too. I knew this has been an issue in the past, but I thought it had been fixed for those who reported it before.

Oh, I’ve been getting logged off for months, too. I don’t mind having to relog on every day; I’m on a Citrix platform and understand the server changes or whatever, but the rest of it, I just figured it was a Java issue (Java is disabled here). I mean, it might still be, but there’s your data point - 5,6,7 times a day, sometimes more.

We need more information — I’m not seeing this problem myself and so I’m not able to duplicate it.

Without being able to duplicate the problem we can’t find a solution.

The system is set to expire a session after 30 minutes of inactivity, which seems reasonable. . How soon after you first log on are you logged off? Obviously much quicker than 30 minutes.

What browser are you using? What version?

What operating system?

What kind of a connection do you have?

I’m mostly on Chrome and occasionally on Firefox, on an XP laptop and usually a cable modem connection and I haven’t seen this problem.

Please report your conditions and let’s see what we can find in common.

Ok, I’ll start paying closer attention tomorrow. It usually just signs me back on, so I’ve just put up with it. I’ll let you know, thanks!

I misspoke – the system is supposed to end your session after 15 minutes of inactivity, not 30. I dunno where I got 30 from, sorry, it is 15 minutes. Which is still a considerable amount of time.

We’ve increased the session time, let’s see if that helps any.

Er…I never used to get logged out. But now I’m starting to be too.

More info: Dunno about this session thing running out, I’ve never had to sign in again. I think I’ve remained signed in for about a year or so. But just today I visited and I wasn’t signed in. That was the first time I had been signed out since…well, I can’t remember.
Whenever I come to this site, I’m automatically still signed in (or at least was until today).

Me too. I had to look up my password.

I haven’t ever had to log in once I set the remember me cookie, except when I reset my browser. I don’t think the session timeout is the issue. As I’m automatically logged back in every time I visit the board.

I guess I shouldn’t have said anything. Now the has logged me off at least twice. As I said in another thread, I see absolutely no reason for this to ever happen. I checked remember me. There is no duration mentioned. So I expect to be remembered until I logout. If I was using a public computer or one that otherwise wasn’t secure, I wouldn’t use that option.

Timeouts in minutes are especially stupid, though I don’t know if that has happened yet. I mean, at least Yahoo gives you a week, and Wikipedia gives you 30 days. Those are websites where it matters a heck of lot more, and I even circumvent them.
