Bumping this minecraft thread to ask for tips on sorting out the wither - can anyone recommend an approach?
It took an epic grind to get the 3 skulls to spawn the thing, so I feel like I need to put it to bed - but it’s a tough MoFo. Killed me numerous times and I’ve had to beat a retreat doing well to just reclaim my stuff, exp level smashed.
I’ve only fought it once and that was tagteaming with a friend.
Diamond enchanted armor, health potions galore, diamond enchanted sword, highlevel enchanted bow.
I don’t know where you summoned it but a good strategy is to clear a big space at bedrock level and spawn it in there so it can’t destroy too much of the terrain and gives you some things to hide behind that can’t be broken.
Thanks - I had the basic sense to spawn it away from my base, but beyond that I didn’t give it much thought - just in a typical hilly / forested area. I’ve landed some sustained digs on it once or twice when my hiding place seems to confuse it, but generally it just rains hell upon my head.
I think part of the overall problem is my exp farm is a bit mediocre - I built a blaze farm in the nether but it’s quite slow. I must have copied a design that’s been made less effective in an update or something like that. So a few runs at the wither and it’s back to square one, which takes some time to build back up to do some heavy enchanting.
I asked my friend who is far more knowledgeable and he had some other comments:
He actually recommends spawning it at the top layer of bedrock in the nether as the wither boss always tries to fly up so it will get stuck and be easier to hit.
He also recommends a diamond sword enchanted with Sharpness 3 and a bow and arrow enchanted with Power 3 and then drink a strength potion and a regen potion and have at least one health potion just in case.
