Getting rid of the shortcut arrow on desktop icons?

There’s gotta be a way to do this, I’m sure of it. At least, I hope there is.

I like to make my own icons for my desktop shortcuts (I use a program called Microangelo). I spend a lot of time making sure they look just right, etc., but when I go to set my shortcuts to them I always forget about that rotten little arrow. The one in the bottom left of all the shortcut icons (except for My Computer, My Documents, etc.). Yeah, it’s small, and takes up only about 1/9th of the icon’s image, but it still bugs me (I use “large icons”–48x48 pixels, instead of 32x32–so it’s a bit more noticeable).

Does anyone know of any way to get rid of this? Is there some file somewhere with that little arrow image, and a way to make it blank or whatever? I use a Windows XP, with all the latest updates. There’s gotta be some way, right?

X-Setup has an option to do this. And many other tweaks as well.

TweakUI , released by Microsoft as part of the Power Toys collection, allows you to do this. After installing it, expand the “Explorer” bullet, and click on “Shortcut”. You can also change the shortcut arrow to a smaller, less noticble version, or even a custom design.

Wow, I never expected to get such great responses this quickly! I must not be the only one who gets annoyed at this. Thanks! I’ll check those out first thing in the morning.
