Getting started in the porn business. Any help?

Well, it’s not quite what you think.

I’d like to capitalize on my writing talent and produce customized erotic stories for adults. Someone would send me a plot with stories and details they’d like to read. In a week or two, I’d mail them back (on paper or softcopy) their story.

Would anyone have any hints, clues or suggestions about how to go about this?

I’m a gay man, so I don’t think I could successfully write straight or lesbian porn but I don’t think that would hamper my projected market too much.

From what you’re suggesting, I’d guess a website might be the way to go. Describe what you’re offering, put up a few sample stories as advertisment, and wait for customers.

Personally, though, I think you’d be better off going the more direct route. Rather than wait for other people to dictate your plotlines, invent your own. Write your stories and submit them for publication. I know there are regular series of gay erotica out there, so the market exists.

And for those who, like me, misunderstood the intent of the title, there’s a book called Turning Pro: A Guide to Sex Work for the Ambitious and the Intrigued by Magdalene Meretrix.

Well, according to the porn movies themselves, the quickest way to get involved with the porn business is to have your sister dissapear into Los Angeles’ seemy underbelly, forcing you to go on a desperate quest to find her before it’s too late. Personally, It doesn’t really sound like much fun.

Going into a specialized area of pornography really helps. I have an acquaintance who specializes in writing erotica dealing with several specific (and IMO extremely weird) fetishes. He actually makes his living from people commissioning him to write stories specifically for them. This is apparently very en vogue at the moment.

By the way, he does this for a living, but he is far, far, far from wealthy so keep that in mind.
