Ghostly Image in "The Godfather?"

If anyone read yesterday’s “Movie Answer Man” column by Roger Ebert, you saw a discussion about a curious image that appears on the recent DVD of “The Godfather.” I checked and it’s really there: during the Godfather’s funeral scene, Robert Duvall comes over to tell Al Pacino something. As Pacino gets up, a half-image of a woman’s face can be scene over his dark suit, on the right side of the screen. In fact, you can sort of see this woman throughout the scene, especially whenever the camera passes over a dark object.

The woman’s face is moving around, so it’s obviously not simply a photograph superimposed on the picture. It looks like a reflection of some sort, I guess.

Anyone have any ideas who this woman is, and why she’s there?

No answers, but it has come up before:

beat me to it…

Wow, I saw something in “Godfather” that Ebert didn’t!

Again, as per my post in the earlier thread, you don’t need DVD to see this.

Hmmmm. I should’ve known that the Dopers would be ahead of even Roger Ebert on this topic, but I’d only read about it for the first time in his column yesterday.

Sorry I didn’t check the boards here first!
