Godfather DVD problem?

I have Just purchased the Godfather DVD collection, and I am quite impressed and very pleased with it. However I did notice someting strange that I need to find out about.

During the Funeral scene When Tessio comes to Michael to arrange a meeting, there seems to be a strange brownish image in the bottom right corner. When Michael rises his black suit fills the screen but I saw a woman’s face in that black…I checked twice frame by frame and sure enough there it is. Worse than that it carries over into the next shot which is in a different location.

So what is this? Coppola made no mention of it in his commentary and I assume this was not in the original print so what the heck is this? It appears to be a reflection, but where was it created? Am I mad, is this a transfer error? Please someone verify this for me, or at least show I’m not made by letting me know you have seen this too.

Not made??? I meant mad… I doubt I can be made as I’m not Italian.

I’ll keep an eye out for the scene you mentioned. We picked up the DVD collection on Tuesday but as yet have not made time to watch it. Hopefully we’ll do that on Saturday.

I noticed the reflection years ago on the regular Cable & Network versions.

It’s reminiscent of a teleprompter reflection.

Have never heard of an explanation.

You don’t need DVD to notice it.

It’s on the video release, and every other version I’ve seen, although I’ve never seen it in a theater. I think it’s a reflection of the woman sitting on Michael’s immediate left (right to the viewer).
