Yo.
I could point out that the Tower destruction is an reference to the first Joe miniseries, in which Cobra destroyed the Tower early on and the Joes magically restored it at the end. But I’m not willing to admit knowing that just yet, so I won’t.
The important thing is: Will Scarlett and the Baronness engage in a catfight in which they each progressively strip the other?
I’d like to see Dreadnoks and The Fridge
What about Rowdy Roddy Piper?
Could be worse. Disney could be making movies about amusement park rides…
Hey, remember the one where Shipwreck woke up in the future and it was secretly a Cobra trap but we didn’t find that out till the end and it was horribly freaky? There was some good stuff there.
Having watched the trailer, it looks like it’s in my favourite genre: the one with supertech military vehicles. I’m definitely going to see this when it comes out.
I didn’t know Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in this. They had me at Christopher Eccleston, but JGL’s a bonus.
I guess I would have seen this anyway, because my husband is a big Joe fan. He had the aircraft carrier playset back in the day, because his parents loved him more than Cluricaun’s did.
And you can point out to your husband that the thing is now worth $1500 on Ebay.
I’d buy it, but a 7 foot plastic aircraft carrier (with working loudspeaker) is enough to end most relationships between a 31 year old man and a 31 year old woman.
Yep, I’m 32, he’s 31. I’m tolerant of many things – we have an entire comic book/actionfigure room in our house – and I wouldn’t put up with it. I don’t think I ever heard about the loudspeaker!
I don’t know what happened to his carrier. His mom probably sold it in a garage sale or something.
Anyway, the movie looks very action-packed, and presumably I won’t be expected to know a bunch of old Joe history to get what’s happening. I never kept up with that stuff as a kid. When’s the live-action My Little Pony movie coming out?
That’s what I remember being so ridiculous about the show. Massive firepower on both sides (guns, bullets, rockets, gernades) and not just a single casualty on either side, but no wounds either. Vehicles got pummled and destroyed but not before their inhabitants jumped or parachuted to safety. Even on the battlefield two enemies would run at eachother guns ablazin not hitting a single thing and when they got a few yards from eachother dropped their weapons and started punching eachother.
Speaking of Robotech, when are they going to do a live action movie (or trilogy of movies) about this show?
I think it has a lot of potential.
There were rumors about Tobey “Spidey” Maguire doing live action Robotech about a year or so ago, but nothing came out in the end.
We fucking NEED a Robotech movie, It would be bigger than Star Wars if done right, a Macross Saga trilogy would completely rock.
I’ll watch it… while praying that is not like macross 7, please please, tell me they dont shoot speakers at the enemy! :smack:
Cobra didn’t destroy the Eiffel Tower; they just stole it using the Mass Device. GI Joe used the last of the Mass Device’s elements to teleport the Eiffel Tower back — only they sent it to London by mistake and it had to be delivered to Paris by ship.
Mass Device… Weather Dominator… Pyramid of Darkness… ah, the multipart episodes were the best.
When did Will Scarlett quit the Merry Men and join GI Joe?
I wrote “destroyed” because, though the Mass Device was clearly a teleportation device, it clearly could also be used as a WMD by purposefully aborting the rematerialize part of the operation, and I’m pretty sure that’s what they did to the Tower–demateriaize without re-materializing.
Though in general I agree, I also remember, as a kid, being faintly annoyed that each successive mini-series bumped Scarlet a bit further down the command chain. In the Mass Device series, the enlisted men operate pretty much on their own, and she’s clearly number two in the group. In the Weather Dominator series, Flint appears (with that stupid beret) and bumps her down a notch, but at least there’s the compensation of adding Lady Jaye, who was just as warrior babealicious as Scarlett.
And the exception to the miniseries-goodness was the one introducing Serpentor & Dr. Mindbender. God, they were annoying. And for some reason General Hawk began personally commanding the Joes, who had no other officers.
I knew someone was going to make a Robin Hood joke after I reread my earlier post.
That doesn’t look good but who didn’t see that coming?
Why cant they just make a Gi joe adventure team movie? Set it in the 70s and give them Kung Fu grip for gods sake? Hell, throw in Bulletman and Mike Power and you got yourself a blockbuster.
