I need help getting a Christmas present for one of my dearest friends. He’s hard to buy for most of the time, but he lost his mother last week and is having a hard time.
He’s late thirties, divorced, no kids. Lives alone with a dog and a parrot. He’s a manly man - a bit of a redneck - likes to hunt - but also has a Harley. Tall, handsome (he thinks he looks like Alan Jackson  ), a really nice guy. Professional photographer and he’s outdoors a lot.
I have no idea what to give him. Anything funny is out, cause of him still being raw so soon after the funeral. Help!!!
Does he read? Does he like music? A gift certificate for Borders is always a great gift.
What about photography books?
A trip to the Harley shop can yield a number of waaaay cool gifts. Clothing, knives, etc.
I wouldn’t dwell on his loss as far as coordinating a gift to try to ease the pain. Having lost my mom on my birthday, I know it’s almost impossible to do. Just let him know you’re thinking of him.
sunscreen, bugspray, powerbars, trail mix, small towel, a shirt with one of his pictures on it, place them in a camp cooking tin.
a harley scarf (for the dog), a little harley mirror (for the parrot), harley shirt (for him) all could be put into a harley tin.
a pillow with a hunting print (dogs, pheasants), duck call whistle, trail mix, a “survival” book, could be put into a wood ammo box, (sporting good store).
I always give boomerangs. You know, the sticks you throw and return; It’s a little different. The best ones are American or European, but there’s sometimes some decent Aussie stuff. Important thing is finding one with the right mix of appearance, performance and appropriate skill level - ranges from art to serious sports equipment. Also, you need to know if he is right or left handed.
Best place to directly purchase a boomerang is a kite shop, but I recommend you do a yahoo/google search for Ted Bailey or The Boomerang Man for online info. I can find URLs if you’re actually interested.
