You seem to be talking about Gilette and TSS in every one of these threads. Did someone close to you get injured or something? I hope not.
Anyway, looks like they recalled those tampons back in 1980. This is a pretty old complaint.

Are you a P& G or Gillette executive?
Or do female victims of corporate malfeasance only matter to you if you are related to them.
There is a lot more. Price fixing, profiting from slavery and child labour, plus deceptive and unfair trade practices, all of which we can put on the shoulders of P&G.
P&G produced a product in response to consumer demand, the product proved to be more dangerous than anticipated, and P&G recalled the product when this was discovered.
And the product was only out for 2 years, 40 fucking years ago.
Naah, I don’t think I’ll be joining your boycott, thanks.
Just check AK’s general contributions to anything MRA-adjacent…
*“Nanny, come quick, MrDibble’s diaper is soiled, he is throwing things out of his pram again”

No, I don’t work for those companies. No, it doesn’t only matter to me if I’m related to a victim.
Hey, I still don’t buy Exxon or Mobil gas because of the Exxon Valdez, so have at it. It just struck me as odd that you go so strongly after this particular company. It would be difficult to find a large multinational that didn’t have those kinds of skeletons in its closet, but you boycott who you want to.
As long as it’s a Pampers nappy, motherfucker.
Well, that sure makes me think MrDibble is wrong.
Frankly I’m more offended by the SDMB ad for Harry’s razors at the bottom of this page, which says “Handsomer, Sharperer, Less Expensiver”
Because their advertising is a lot cheaperer.
OK, that’s it. I’m this close to logging out and turning off my ad block so I can have a look at that ad!
As a person who’s not a sexist asshole, I’m perfectly fine when people tell me that it’s bad to be a sexist asshole, because they’re actually complimenting me!
Honestly there’s only two ways that anyone, including especially you, can possibly be offended by an advertisement like this.
You’re exactly the sort of horrible person it’s criticizing, and take their judgement personally.
You think that the advertisement is accusing you, personally, of something, because you’re an insane person who thinks that they’re the center of the universe and that everyone is always talking about them and only them all the time.
Yep, those are pretty much the only options. Asshole self-own Rorschach test indeed!
It’s not their place to tell anyone how to act? What the fuck do you think advertising is?
In this case they are telling people not to be assholes instead of telling them to buy things. The horror.
Ok fine. It’s not their place to tell anyone how to act outside of the toiletries aisle in a supermarket. Better?
Is there anyone you wouldn’t take this message from? What if the Chick-Fil-A guys did a “don’t be assholes” ad? Or Goldman Sachs? Or Union Carbide? On principle, at what point would you say “Actually, I don’t need to hear this shit from you”? I’m genuinely curious.
I’ve got several former customers (all of them multinational companies) I’ve fired on account of being assholes, but if any of them said “don’t be an asshole!” in their publicity I’d say “yep, totally agreed. By the way, have you guys cleaned up your own act? I hope you have, but hey, recognizing one should not be an asshole is a necessary step on the road to not being an asshole, so keep on moving that way.”
joins dropzone at the drafting table Not a drafter myself, but hey, [del]7[/del]8 years of Draftsmanship do show! (Is it weird to want to set up a draftsmanship table one of these days and redraw some of my old exercises as a hobby?)
[Bolding mine.]
You must resent a lot of PSA’s. Get your child vaccinated. Don’t smoke. Don’t drive drunk. Don’t litter. How dare they?
I won’t defend Gillette on ads from the past because they were, in fact, pretty sexist. You might have noticed that in the ad in question, they acknowledge their own guilt on this score. As I said in the other thread, it’d be pretty tough for them to go back to sexist ads after this.
And of course they want to make money. So did Nike with the Kaepernick ad, which worked. Given that they want to boost sales, I’d rather they did it with ads like this than with sexist ads. And the more people sputter and steam about it, the more P&G grins.
The hilarious thing is that Gillette is planning on showing this ad a total of one time - during the Superbowl. Nonetheless, the outrage overflows. That’s how fragile the Asshole-American community is.
I reject plenty of advice - like that I get from the front of every church I pass. Or the ads telling me that if I were a real successful man I’d buy my wife a Mercedes for Christmas. Or 99% of the ads I see. But I’m not offended by any of them. I bet you aren’t either.
The only reason I can see for someone being offended by this ad is if they see it as a personal attack on their actions. Do smokers get offended by ads attacking their habit? I haven’t heard them being offended, perhaps they understand the harm in their behavior even if they choose not to do anything about it.
This ad is kind of a really expensive PSA with Gillette slapped on it to justify their paying for it.
That’s just **AK **showing how much he “doesn’t give a shit about me”… I do so love the rent-free space I have in his head.
