Gilmore Girls 4/22

I just started reading the recap at TWOP for last week’s episode and just got to wondering something.

As an attempt to stay in business while they’re rebuilding the inn, Tobin suggested turning the inn into a kind of bed & breakfast, but Lorelai resisted, saying that B&B’s are cutesy and irritating.

Hello? Isn’t her life-long ambition to become the OWNER of a bed & breakfast? I mean, after being roady for the Bangles, but you get the idea.

Where the heck did that come from?

I thought this too, but remembered that Lorelai and Sokie want to own an inn, not a B&B. So I guess they want to own something like the Independence. The show’s not great about time lines and keeping certain details in check, but I don’t think this is a goof.

(Since it will take lots of money to fix up the inn, I can see Mia selling the place to L&S, since she kinda wanted to sell it anyway.)

Yeah, Lorelei drew a distict difference between B&Bs and inns when she and Rori went on a road trip. They were going to stay in an inn they knew about, but it had switched owners, who turned it into a B&B to their utter dismay.

Apparently, a B&B is cutesy and sacarin, while an inn is…well…not cutesy and sacarin. More like a ski lodge than a craft fair, if that makes any sense.

Lorelai has the ambition of owning an inn. Not a B&B.

If I recall correctly, back during the Max Medina saga, Lorelai and Rory went on a road trip and were forced to stay at a B&B. Satanic forces are, apparently, at work there. Their disdain for B&Bs centers around the whole “Let’s everybody do activities!” attitude, along with the appalling decor associated with them.

An inn has a dignity and a level of respect that a B&B does not; it’s something that people in the industry would be acutely aware of. Just as Suki would have a certain amount of horror at working for Denny’s, Lorelai doesn’t want to work in a B&B.

I sat and forever am at work here.

Okay, that makes sense. Now, can anybody tell me why Sookie’s losing weight now that she’s pregnant? Looks like she’s dropped at last 50 pounds since the start of the season.

Apparently there’s a firm line between an inn and a b&b. How an inn differs from a hotel is beyond me - maybe an inn is smaller w/ more attention? shrug

Maybe she’s doing the Pregnancy Walk diet. I have no idea. To tell you the truth, I hadn’t noticed she had lost weight because I haven’t been paying attention. She’s always looked radiant. I’m just afraid that Rory’s going to thin herself into oblivion, she’s so sticky.

Quick, unrelated joke:

Q. What’s brown and sticky?

A. a stick

I watched Manor House last night instead of Gilmore Girls. Can anyone tell me what happened with Rory and Jess?

Let’s see… I’ll save & spare you the details until Pamie churns out her TWoP recap. But here’s the short version:

Rory & Jess are walking through the town and they talk of Jess’ prom. Jess actually seems not-repulsed to go to this thing. In fact, he almost seems to look forward to it. He goes to buy tickets, but is told to see the principal instead. Never a good thing. Principal says prom tickets are for graduating seniors only and since Jess isn’t graduating (he’s missed like 31 days of school) he can’t buy prom tickets. Summer school won’t help, Jess is just out of luck here.

This makes Jess extra broody and he’s just in a pissant mood for the rest of the episode only he doesn’t tell Rory or anyone else because he’s mad and probably ashamed of this esp with a Yale-going girlfriend and all.

Lane & her band with a really long name have their first gig at some guy’s house party. Rory & Jess go, but Jess is upset the whole time (welcome back old Jess). Rory finds Jess sitting alone in an upstairs bedroom. They end up making out on the bed, and when Jess goes too far, Rory tries to stop him. This, compounded by the flunking out of school thing, makes Jess extra mad. Rory runs out of the room upset by everything and --yup – runs into Dean hanging out on the staircase.

Dean suspects the worst and he and Jess get into a huge fight all over the house, ending in the front lawn where the cops come to break up the party.

Unrelated: WB promos suck.

Crud. I just realised that I should have spoiler tagged the whole thing.

My apologies to anyone who hasn’t seen the episode yet.

An inn is just a fancier, quainter hotel. You get a key to your room and you can come and go as you please.

B&B’s have regulated hours you can come in to your room and force everyone to eat breakfast in a communal setting of sorts.
