Gimme a Na! Gimme a No! Gimme a Wri! Gimme a Mo!

Does anyone want to do any sort of exchange of our NaNos? I know some of us have excerpts up at the NaNo site, but if anyone wants to do something more extensive, I’m game.

17k by lunch time - happiness.
Thanks to my Antiques Roadshow addiction, last night’s research was kept to a minimum and the details can get cleaned up in editing.
I’m not swapping or putting up extracts of the book. I’ve got one line out there somewhere that’s the very core of the story - and that one line keeps changing in the text.
I’ve got beta readers already lined around the block for this one as the first two books were well received. They keep whining that each time I edit, they want to read the MS again. Buy the book (when it’s published,) I say. While it’s in ‘editing’ it’s subject to change without notice.

Well the last couple of days didn’t go so well, but today I had my biggest day so far and cranked out 4,001 words. I’m now over 18k which means I’m averaging 2k a day. I’m glad I have some wiggle room again.

I broke 3,000 words. That’s absolutely nothing compared to you guys, but I’m excited. I figured out that I need to write 2500 words every day to reach 50,000 by the end of November. I think that might actually be achievable.

I would be interested in swapping my document of ridiculousness with somebody.

I’ve been sick and started lagging behind, though I’d been doing really well before this. I did 3000 this morning before work, setting me at 10k. I’m still about 6000 words behind where I wanted to be today, but if I can manage 3000 a day like this I should be caught up again in no time.

I’d started out intending to write about vampires in Las Vegas. Instead it’s even goofier. I don’t even know where to begin describing it so far.

I’d love to swap with other Dopers and share the insanity.

I’m over 15K at the moment and hating it right now. I hate not editing! I see major choppy parts. But I am plugging along. Unfortunately I am about 200 words ahead of schedule so I have very little cushion. Perhaps today.

That’s the best part for me. My writing is so bad I wouldn’t even notice if I needed to edit it or not. I only have the spell check on, and that’s because I can’t spell either and it’s easy enough to fix.

I have noticed that my writing has gotten at least a little bit better, I seem to be using more descriptive words.

I’m very afraid to go back and see what the grammar checker finds. I might not even do that, ever.

I’m with you on this one. I’ve taken to changing the text colour of everything that’s going to be changed on Dec 1. Just so I know it’s *going *to be fixed.

The novel’s looking more like a patchwork quilt than a piece of fiction!

I could set up a simple blog where Dopers could post whatever excerpts they want, if people would be interested in doing it that way.

I’m failing thoroughly at this. Can’t stand the crap I’m putting out, and delete it as soon as it’s written.

I keep my inner editor sedated with chocolate.

I bought iWork for my Mac, and one of the very nice features that the word processing program Pages has that I’ve never seen on MS Word is the ability to make notes on the text without affecting the text itself. I’ve been making little notes as I go along–sometimes, I’ve changed my mind about something I’ve written before, so I make a little note so that I can change it in December should I choose to.

You can do that in Word. You go Insert --> Comment, and you can put a comment in a bubble in the margin. I usually highlight what I want to change/comment on, and then add my comment.

I’m now at 13037 after not writing one word yesterday (it was my daughter’s birthday.) I think one of my main characters is falling in love with my other main character, which is kind of interesting because they are both female.

CaerieD, my characters are in Las Vegas right now, so I’m going to have to put a vampire in there somewhere, I think!

19401 - the two female leads are in a gay bar, though they’re both hetero. One of them has just fallen off a stool in a fit of drunken giggles. The other FMC saved the drink.

Tamex, excellent!

My apparently straight Middle Eastern MMC is now working for a gay brothel in New Orleans.

21,321 thanks to heaping servings of amazingly boring cellular biology exposition. :frowning:
All of which will go away in December, replaced by somehing like: “It’s a brand new disease. No one has immunity to it.”
Ah, well. It’s words.

I am at 18544 after a huge surge this weekend. I wrote 3626 words today alone! I feel absolutely exhausted.

I broke 15000, and my brain, about 15 minutes ago. Yowsa. I think that’s about 9000 words since yesterday morning. Yipe.

After that, I guess it would be unkind to say I broke 25,000 tonight, wouldn’t it?

So I won’t.

It’s all downhill now…

I am way behind. I’m not even quite to 4000 words. But I’m sure I’ll rally. I wrote 20K words in three days last year. No sweat.
