Or as a panelist on The Masked Singer next to Jenny McCarthy.
It does, however, marginalize her to people who are not aware of her conspiranoia but who might be influenced by her celebrity. Notice how nobody is following Rosanne Barr or Joe The Plumber because they have become utterly irrelevant punchlines to a forgotten pop culture joke
Part of the problem with the way the media dealt with Trump is that they consistently failed to marginalize him, before and after the 2016 election. Media outlets highlighted his consistent stream of falsehoods, published op-eds about his destructive policies, and had big round table discussions about the danger of how he alienated allies and courted demagogues around the globe, but then they turned around and followed his every bowel movement and inchoate utterance; CNN.com would even embed his tweets and then literally repeat them word for word to bloat out their articles. If the media would have just collectively ignored him until he offered something resembling a policy statement or of actual relevance to the world at large, he would have gotten bored and probably quit, then triy to get back his job as a game show host where he could get public attention for being a clown.

“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views,” she wrote.
What might have got lost, or what I might have missed in 200+ posts, is that, reading this cold, with no context, it also works with liberals as the “Jews”.
I mean, haven’t the republicans demonized liberals? Don’t GOP politicians argue for the outright execution of Democrats? “The only good Democrat is a dead democrat”?*
You can really tell what an igorant nut case she is by this fact. If conservatives had any passing understanding of empathy, they wouldn’t say shit like this to gain “points”.
*which I counter by saying, “even dead, republicans will never be good.”
My point is that there’s more outrage over stupid tweets than there is over real-world situations. There really is.
Fuck them. Fuck them hard. They tried to overthrow my government. They tried to take my democratic rights. They might try to kill me. They have spent decades building a platform of lies just for that purpose. Shunning them is more than reasonable.
Maybe you should be given a reason to think twice before you do that.
Yes, realistically.
Any of them who embarrass their employers and create a public relations problem? Sure. Any of them who make their co-workers want to avoid them? Sure.
By the way, you keep asking if anyone gave her a chance to apologize. What is she, a child? She doesn’t need to be offered a chance to apologize. She can do it all on her own. Her platform for apology is right there. She knows where to find it.
And you keep skating over the fact that this isn’t just one, isolated incident. She has done this repeatedly .What makes you think she doesn’t know what she is doing? What makes you think she isn’t aware of what the people around her think about it?
This isn’t mere opinion. This is lies in furtherance of facism, authoritarianism, and death.
She’s the one engaging in radicalism, not the people who have decided to disassociate themselves from her.
I want to emphasize the point you made…
“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
The Cheeto-Faced Shit-Gibbon, et al, spend/t an inordinate amount of time talking about people (“Liberals,” “Leftists”). Conservative media does this, too – more than any of the other major center or left-of-center networks AFAICT (and I spread my listening and viewing time across a large number of outlets, across the political spectrum).
They disparage the other side constantly – again: talking about the people and NOT the ideas. What we watched in the last four years – most excruciatingly and pointedly since the November election – was a doubling down on this rank and unmitigated ad hominem approach in a way that – AFAICT – may be simply unprecedented.
The only time our nation ever really methodically dehumanized an enemy like the RW has/did/is/does is during wartime, in an effort to make the cost of killing the enemy just a little more palatable for the warfighters who have to do the killing.
[sound familiar ? See 1/6/2021, dateline The Capitol]
This is the apotheosis of demagoguery, and it profoundly fans the flames of hatred and division. It doesn’t enlighten. It doesn’t inform. It doesn’t persuade. It just pits neighbor against neighbor, and sends the most bat-shit crazy among us to the Capitol or onto RW media outlets.
We really should pit the demagogues and the demagoguery … and I mean mercilessly and on a national scale.
I’ve long maintained that, in the USA, the more activist elements of organized religion have long been on offense, while the secular segments of society (say that three times fast) have been unequivocally on defense.
Trying to claw back lost ground is still defensive.
I feel the same offense/defense dynamic is applicable to the MAGAts vs. The Rest of Civil Society.
They, of course, would say the opposite, but – despite the fact that a pedophile rarely argues that he’s being denied “his right to molest children,” conservatives – particularly when mixed with organized religion – do whine, bitch, and moan when their perceived “rights” to be The Worst People In The Country are at risk of being abridged.
It’s definitely crazy-making.
I think in analyzing the impact of this woman’s post, it’s also important to consider the image she posted with it. The picture is of a half - naked terrified Jewish woman running from a man with a baton (gestapo?). It’s pretty damn exploitative to use a photo of an actual victim to butress some dumb political point. It’s clearly intended to provoke. Comparable, maybe, to the pro lifers using grotesque images of dead fetuses.
(Also, how the fuck has history been edited about the Holocaust? It’s not like some groundbreaking revelation that Germans were propagandized into hating Jews.)

"Can’t we just get along with those who have threatened us with violence, asked that we be jailed, called us traitors, stormed out Capitol, murdered people then played victim??’
…he said, expressing his outrage over a post on a message board.
This is the Pit. That’s where we put outrage threads. I keep looking for your thread on Amazon’s work practices and still can’t find it.
Oh, please. You have no idea what I do in real life.
I don’t give a shit what this actress says or does. I never heard of her before today, and I’ll probably never hear about her after today.
This board, on the other hand, is a community of which I am a part. I do care when threads about complete trivia generate huge levels of response.
Just a drive by to say that I think this post is very well put. Anything else is just more false-equivalency.
You don’t know the actress. You don’t know the show. You don’t know the context of the controversy.
All you know is, people are talking about something that doesn’t interest you, and by God, THAT CANNOT STAND!
May I suggest getting over yourself, you insufferable asshole?
I must apologize. After a brief period of self-criticism, I realize that I have failed to sufficiently denounce this person and thus was rightly denounced myself. I will do my best to purge myself of my bad-influencing, counter-revolutionary tendencies.
Or, y’know, if you’ve got nothing to contribute to a specific Pit thread except a bit of tsk-tsk threadshitting, you could, like, just not post in the thread. That’s good too.
I did have something to contribute, which is that we really should be better than outrage over an actor’s stupid tweets. That was kind of what the OP was about, actually
If there’s anyplace I can post an opinion like that without it being “threadshitting,” it ought to be the Pit.
But rest assured, I’ve learned my lesson. I hope Ms. Carano never works again.
Speaking as a moderator, threadshitting isn’t technically against the rules in the Pit: it’s allowed to come into a thread and tell people they’re stupid for participating in it.
Speaking as a poster, that doesn’t make you any less of a sanctimonious, hypocritical cock.
Ironic nuttery.
“Cancel Culture” is one of the worst pieces of lexicon to enter online discourse in recent years
Freedom of speech never meant freedom from consequence and I swear to god every celebrity who I have heard that has apparently been “cancelled” have the material resources and connections to bounce back not long after.
