Gina Carano is ignorant AF, but cancel culture is really getting ridiculous

See, that’s something a lot of people don’t get - yes, you are entitled to your opinions, but you do not have to spew them everywhere. You don’t have to like your co-workers, their politics, or a lot of other things but at work STFU and keep it to yourself. Treat everyone politely whether you like them or not. And recognize that if you do something that costs your employer money you are likely to find yourself out of a job.

I work for a freakin’ grocery store and yet there is a written policy about social media, training about it, and the bargain is simple: if you want to work for X company don’t do anything to publicly drag their name through the mud.

If you CHOOSE to air your opinions in public then you will have to contend with the public consequences of airing those opinions in public. I’m all for you doing it, but if you don’t please don’t whine about consequences arising from that unless your human/legal rights actually are threatened. Which is different that being made to feel uncomfortable or being fired for violating workplace rules.

You may or may not like that, but that is the world we actually live in. You are welcome to try to change things - good luck with that - but in the meanwhile you have to deal with reality.

There are a LOT of artists/actors/musicians/creators I don’t particularly like as human beings. I am interested in their work, and while I don’t wish them ill I am not terribly interested in their opinions or viewpoints. If they want to keep those private, regardless of what they are, I’ll decided to purchase their product based solely on that product. If, however, they are broadcasting their opinions daily in public then I may well make my decision based on that public product.

Oh, I don’t think everyone right of this “antifa” caricature is a Nazi. Hell, I don’t even think all Republicans are Nazis - I can name seven of them in the Senate who look like they might oppose fascism, for example - but there sure as hell ARE people who are, in fact, Nazis. There are explicit Nazis who own the name. There are “White Nationalists” who, from Charlottesville onward have been pretty open about their position regarding what they call “mud races”. There are people are just plain thirsty for power, don’t much care how they get it, and are hitching their wagon to fascists as a means to an end and they don’t give a fuck who gets hurt or killed along the way. I’m going to call a Nazi a Nazi. If you don’t like that too bad. I’m allowed my opinion just like everyone else (at least for now - I don’t doubt that if the Trumpists get their way anything but their party line will be outlawed or bullied or both).

I’m sorry - did you just wake up this morning and realize that? Yes, that’s how corporations are. They care about the bottom line and not much else. That’s why we need things like workplace regulation so your breakfast sausage doesn’t have bits and pieces of company employees because the corporation found it cheaper to replace workers than install railings and other safety equipment to keep them from falling into the meat grinder from time to time.

Carano wasn’t fired for “wrong think”. She was fired for bringing bad publicity to her employer. There are numerous conservative/Republican/authoritarian actors in the industry who nonetheless continue to find work. It’s no secret how these people feel, what their opinions are, but they don’t use them to shit on projects that collectively employ hundreds or even thousands of people by bringing bad publicity to the enterprise.

As an example, I disagree with Clint Eastwood’s political views and Mr. Eastwood doesn’t keep them a secret - indeed, he has run and won elected office and participated in national level politics. But he keeps the politics/opinions separate from his film projects. So he keeps working. Rinse and repeat for a lot of other folks.

For the more liberal end, I very much disagree with celebrities promoting PETA or pushing everyone to go vegetarian because my opinions differ markedly from them and I view PETA as somewhere between very misguided and borderline terrorist. Nonetheless, I still buy the product of some of those celebrities who can keep a partition between their work and their opinions.

Carano was either not willing or not able to make that distinction. She continued to bring bad publicity to the project(s) she worked on, so she was fired. That’s reality in ANY job in the US.

Well, it’s from the New York Post. What did you expect?

Was she fired, or did they just not renew her contract?

Not entirely sure on that point - I’ve heard it both ways.

How do you “educate” someone that honestly believes you rape and murder small children and drink their blood?

They are delusional. Even if 50 million people are delusional, it’s still doesn’t make the delusion real.

These delusions need to be treated like a disease, we need to isolate and marginalize the people that are infected so they don’t continue to spread it.

Abs also they believe it because they have chosen to. They want to believe it. There is no type of education that will dispel their delusion.

A short career?

Better. But they disappoint me every day.

I’m surprised the attackers of Andy Ngo aren’t being deliberately misrepresented as right wing false flag operatives by the willfully myopic.

When you find your expectations subverted in such a way, maybe it is time to reassess your beliefs.

Well, it’s that old liberal predilection for reality and facts again. Conservatives in general seem to be fine with deliberately misrepresenting right-wing violent attackers as left-wing false flag operatives, but conservatives in general have an anti-reality bias.

David Letterman joked back in the Eighties that there must be a law or something that the Post include the word “bludgeon” in at least one headline daily.

Facts? Like the fact that the left can’t read? That tweet wasn’t anti-Semitic but low IQ fools can’t help but to misrepresent the tweet. The tweet is about the dangers of dehumanization of out groups. Duh. We got nuts on this very site talking about ‘re-education’ camps and other totalitarian nonsense based solely on political party.

People in the New York Post are either Bozos or Angels.

“Tiger Woods’ Wife Says ‘Beat it Bozo!’”

“First of all… No, she certainly did not.”

/John Mulaney

Who? I’m honestly curious who is earnestly suggesting this, because that doesn’t sound good.

[Groucho Marx] “I wish they stop getting ideas from their out houses.” [/Groucho Marx]

I think asahi was talking about that in one thread or something. It doesn’t make octopus’s ridiculous point about Ngo any less ridiculous, of course.

I’m not sure why anyone would choose to engage with octopus on any political topic anyway, because he adds zero value and makes ridiculously broad assertions all day long, and tries to twist every thread to be all about him.

Wow, there’s way more leftists on the SDMB than I thought, and I thought this would be better than reddit.

Hypocrisy is thy name…

The Mandalorian‘s leading man Pedro Pascal made the same comparison three years ago. But since it attacks Republican policy a socially acceptable use of it which by the way Obama followed the same policy during his presidency - odd we only heard about kids in cages when Trump was in power, strange huh ?

Carano makes a tweet don’t demonize the other side because bad things can happen when you start going down that road. That’s all she was saying, and she got pilloried for it.

Don’t worry there’s great news comrades!

This Is Just The Beginning, Welcome To The Rebellion - G.Carano

Don’t be offended if I don’t engage with each one of you Cultural Marxists, I’m actually pretty busy with RL things.

Being old and out of touch? (That’s directed at me as much as you!)
