Gina Carano is ignorant AF, but cancel culture is really getting ridiculous

Yes, all indications are that Arbuckle was innocent of rape. That last time I read something about it, it seemed to indicate that she had probably died from a botched abortion.

Not familiar with the case, but there are rarely physical indicators of rape, so I don’t find “no signs of rape” particularly compelling. (I work in a organization with trained sexual assault forensic nurses, and they say that most of the time there is no vaginal tearing.)

And, as the Arbuckle case was 100 years ago, I would suspect that medical exams and forensic knowledge wasn’t what it is today, either.

I was thinking the same thing. Nowadays SANE nurses can use colposcopes that identify injuries that cannot be seen by the naked eye. They are also used to document evidence of domestic violence strangulation, which does not typically cause visible markings.

Reading the Wikipedia summary, though, it doesn’t even sound like Rappe herself accused him of rape, and the increasingly exaggerated stories make me suspicious. Unless there is something the article left out.

Fair enough, but she suffered from chronic urinary tract infections, which was often exacerbated by alcohol. At the time of the alleged rape, she was heavily intoxicated (according to a hotel doctor who examined her). She died a couple of days later from peritonitis caused by a ruptured bladder, as determined by a later autopsy.

The charge of rape came from one friend of the woman, and the police speculated that the ruptured bladder was caused by Arbuckle crushing her during sex. There were no injuries supporting that, but it was a story the press loved and the public was captivated by the idea. Nothing in his past indicated that he was prone to womanizing or mistreating women; on the contrary, those closest to him saw him as good-natured and actually shy around women.

The only “evidence” was one person’s story; a person who, by the way, kept changing her story. The defense even had a letter from her admitting a plan to extort money from Arbuckle through the accusation. She was ultimately not asked to testify by the prosecution because it would damage the case.

The hotel doctor claimed that his examination showed that there was external damage to the victim consistent with a weight put on her, but under cross-examination he admitted that he only said that because the DA threatened to charge him with perjury if he didn’t make those claims. Another witness in a second trial later admitted they were threatened by the DA to testify.

The trials were a sham, they had jurors who swore that they’d never vote to acquit no matter what happened at the trial (leading to two 10-2 hung juries). The court proceedings were so obviously botched that at the acquittal the jury offered Arbuckle a thorough apology for the injustices that he was put through.

I can’t see how anyone could conclude that Arbuckle “probably” was guilty. I guess that Biden “probably” stole the last presidential election too.

Yeah, it sounds pretty sketchy. No argument there.

Actress complains about cancel culture, and Disney cancels her.

Bravo idiots !

Was that supposed to be a news article? It reads more like a tabloid.

It also reads like a hit piece on AOC and border security, rather than anything about so-called “cancel culture,” at least when I click on the link.

Did I need to scroll down some?

I believe the point here is that Ocasio-Cortez compared people to Nazis who were not in fact Nazis.

Pedro Pascal also compared Trump voters to Nazis. It’s kind of a thing now.

Personally I’m less het up about this than the fact she spread dangerous lies about the election. Oh, and the trans thing. She just ran out of chances, is all.

Well, there’s really not all that much difference today between 1930s/1940s’ Nazis and todays’ Republicans.

Yeah, that’s the thing. There’s a whisker’s difference between the extremists that seem to dominate the Republican Party these days and 30s style Nazis.

People are of course welcome (not that I can stop them) to debate the relatively unimportant and minute differences between them.

Zooming out to the big picture, if you have to resort to pedantic explanations to explain how your particular form of nationalism is different from the evil my grandparents contended with, then maybe (definitely) a re-think is in order.

Yes, there’s a huge difference between comparing wannabe Nazis to Nazis, versus comparing wannabe Nazis to the victims of Nazis.

Or put another way - Nazi troll, fuck off.

Here’s a video that sums up the general consensus I’ve seen everywhere outside of the Breitbart types:

It both points out how bad this last straw actually is, and why Disney would obviously fire her after she kept stirring up this kind of trouble. She was bringing bad publicity.

It also discusses someone else on the show who had a problem on the trans front: Rosario Dawson. She was smart. She shut up. She worked out the issues behind the scenes. And now she’s getting her spinoff show, while Carano lost hers.

Part of the reason scandals are more likely to result in “cancelling” now is that people don’t follow the old model of just keeping your head down. Social media means they keep on talking, rather than apologizing and going off for a bit while things die down.

Yeah keep on going with anyone politically right of ANTIFA is a Nazi and see what kind of country you end up with. Even some gay Vietnamese liberals like Andy Ngo get the Nazi label, permanent brain injuries are free from being assaulted from them as well. His crime - covering ANTIFA in Portland.

Leftists have lost their minds, and corporations like Disney don’t give a shit about right or wrong. Like every other whore corporation all they care about is money. The smell which way the wind is blowing and what ever ideology appears to dominate discourse whether right or wrong, and they fall in line. Individuals with strong convictions who can’t sleep at night unless they say something won’t.

Taking away those peoples jobs for wrong think, isn’t going to create the utopia you think it will.

Quite a straw man you’ve built there! And congratulations on taking down that might man of straw!

Eh, I don’t end up with anything, troll.

Ha! Give me some of whatever you’re smoking.

Nothing you brought up has anything to do with this thread. Antifa has not been mentioned, and no one has said anything about what Carano thinks.

Your previous post also had no relevance, as she did not call anyone Nazis–she argued she was being persecuted like the victims of the Holocaust for having to wear a mask. She also had lied about mask wearing, and was part of the disinformation campaign to undermine the US presidential election. And she had mocked trans people.

She did a lot of things that Disney doesn’t want to be associated with. Disney wouldn’t care if she just thought those things, or even just talked about them among her friends. But when she said them on Twitter and got headlines like “Mandalorian costar makes antisemetic comments” it makes Disney look bad.

And it only makes Disney look bad because we as a society know it’s garbage. At least, the rest of us do. You seem to want to use dishonest tactics to defend it.
