Gingy's Cross-Country Extravaganza!

I do not. I have a cassette player in ‘that thing’ - which is the In-Law’s mini-van.

Hmm…

That could present a problem…

Yeah, I’ve got a route Change, do I-68 and not I-70, then take I-79 N and connect back up with I-70. First it’s a much nicer drive, two there is no tolls, and three it’s about 5 miles longer then taking I-70. I hate taking I-70 through PA and take 68 when ever I can.

Also I will be heading the same direction a couple of days after you. Do you happen to know when you will be coming back? I am heading out to Glacier National Park in Montana. I’m leaving the evening of July 2. I haven’t totally done my trip yet but I will should be heading up I-68,I-79, I-80/90, I-80, I-35 (unless I don’t want to go through Iowa), I-90 or I-94 depending on if it’s better for me to stop in the Badlands area of SD first or last.

I doubt that you’ll see me but if you happen to see a guy in a red riding suit on a red motorcycle from Maryland that’s probably me. You know what you should do is get the new Harry Potter book on tape, that should last you.

Woe is me. My skank-I mean friend, Hamadryad, gave me a portable cd player. However, the lighter/power source in that vehicle doesn’t work.

Kinda cuts down on the options.

I don’t know for sure when I’ll be coming home. Do yourself a favour: take your passport with you, and head to the Canadian side of Glacier, called Waterton National Park. Go to Lundbreck Falls, Red Rock Canyon, and Cameron falls. I have many great memories of the place, I lived out there as a camp counsellor the summer that I was 14. Beautiful!

Also, I’ll be leaving from Jonathan Chance’s place on the 28th. How does this change the route?

Buy a whole lot of good batteries - or does the portable one not run on batteries?

We have one that does, if you need a loaner.

I went there last summer! I rode a horse and almost fell in a waterfall! It was beautiful!

I’ll have to remember to take my passport then. I haven’t made any real plans so if I get a chance I will.

I guess I wasn’t thinking that you probably don’t know the roads that well. I-68 is out in western Maryland. Since you’ll be leaving from JCs I could give you some intersting directions but I wouldn’t want to get you lost. Anyway I-68 splits off of I-70 in Hancock, MD just before I-70 heads north into PA. I-68 and I-70 run pretty parrallel to each other, and 68 is a much nicer road. The reason you don’t get told to go that way by mapping programs is because it’s a few miles longer. If you look on you’re map you’ll see where 68 and 70 split.

Well, Saturday is the day. Anyone have any further advice?

Don’t take money from strangers! Wear your seatbelt! Vote Martian! Cover your mouth when you cough! Moss grows on the north side of a tree!

Okay, does anyone have any relevant advice?

Hang around until MP finishes her set?

Go easy on the wine?

Leave that slacker and shack up with me?

Ah, if only there weren’t Lady Chance…

I don’t think I’ll be able to wait that long. I’d love to stay all night, but it’s just not happening this time around.

She takes the stage at 4PM. She’ll be done by 5:30 or so.

And work something out with Lady Chance. She’s reas…

Hmm. Let me get to cover, first.

Don’t forget about Hyperfix here in Indianapolis. I’ve heard it can be a bitch!!

Also, IPD is starting sobriety checkpoints this weekend (we had 16 people die around July 4th last year). I’m not sure if they’re doing any on the interstates, but just keep that in mind.

Wish I could be of more help, but my cousin is having her college graduation party this weekend in Elkhart.

Good luck and have fun!

Sobriety is not an issue for me while I’m driving. In fact, sobriety is never much of an issue for me, because alcohol is too fattening. Can you suggest a way around that I don’t have to get stuck in the construction?

Fly.

Oh, ha ha. Look at the funny donkey.

Have you found I-68 on the map? I just did that route, I-70 to I-68, I-79 to I-70 again. Much much quicker then staying on I-70 the whole way and no tolls. I’m not sure when I’ll be around this weekend to show you but it really is very easy. I’m hoping to be at the party before 4, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Gingy, here are my two best ideas:

Go south on I-465 (on the east side) around the city and get off on whatever interstate you’re using to head west. Easy and easy to remember, but, EVERYONE!!! is using I-465 instead of I-70. So …

My second suggestion is this: come all the way into town on I-70, and get off on the Ohio, Michigan, and New York streets exit. Take a right on Michigan Street (first street at the bottom of the ramp - you can only turn right) and head through downtown. Past Meridian Street, you’ll want to be on the left side of the road. At West Street, turn left (south). Follow West Street, and it will literally ramp you right back up onto I-70 West. If you’re taking I-74 west to Springfield just get on I-465 North and head up to the exit. Otherwise, drive off into the sunset!

I know it sounds a little more complicated, but it’s miles shorter to cut through downtown. Let me know if you need more clarification. It’s easy to get maps at www.randmcnally.com. Just click “get a map” and put in Indianapolis, IN. Zoom in a little bit, and you should see what I mean just fine.
